Best acoustic guitars under £300

While we tot up the votes and prepare to unveil the very best electric guitars under £300, we're returning to the pool of knowledge that is the MusicRadar community to ask another question: what's the best budget acoustic?

For those looking to buy their first, it's a daunting prospect. The number of brands alone is tremendous, but… whittling away the cream of the crop from the cheap and nasty is what we do best.

What to do now...

Think playability, durability and any other 'ability a guitarist on a budget should know. Standard rules apply: please check the street price (no second hand prices, if you please), log in and leave your suggested acoustic guitar (costing under £300) in the comments below. We'll post your definitive list in the coming weeks.

NOTE: ACOUSTIC GUITARS ONLY PLEASE – LET'S KEEP ELECTRO-ACOUSTICS FOR ANOTHER LIST

I recently purchased a Cort L450C and it’s an absolute dream to play – lovely tones, have recommended it to everyone I know

Vintage should always be counted in any budget category – I think you can pick up a V1300 acoustic for around £300 which was one of my first guitars and very sweet sounding.

Plus one for the Yamaha FG - most of the FGs I played are fantastic for the money. There's also a distinct lack of Epiphone on this list so i'm voting for the EJ200 which is more than playable.

Yamaha FG730S. Like everything they build Yamaha manage to combine quality workmanship, great tone and real value for money in this model. I own a handbuilt Yamaha LL26 but I would be more than happy to gig with the part-laminate FG; it really is a fine guitar.

I can't fault my Simon & Patrick SP 6 Cedar. I've probably had it ten years now and it sounds better than ever.

Because there aren't a huge amount of excellent acoustics for under £300, I decided to nominate the Yamaha F310 as for the dosh, it can't be beaten. I am no expert but, I have tried a few of the cheaper guitars and only three impressed me...
