Virtual String Machine is the long-awaited new software instrument from British developer GForce. Said to offer "the ultimate synth string and pad experience", it samples 17 classic hardware string machines and ships with over 2.5GB of data.
Among the instruments sampled are the Solina, Elka Rhapsody, Logan String Melody and Korg PE2000. Their classic sounds are captured in Virtual String Machine's 700-plus presets, and thanks to the inclusion of a two-layer option, it's possible to create your own hybrid instruments.
As well as offering straight emulations of the hardware it samples, Virtual String Machine also boasts a number of new features that enable you to go beyond the original sounds. Notably, there are vintage-style Ensemble and Phaser units.
Available now for Mac and PC, Virtual String Machine costs £99. It runs standalone or as a VST, AU or RTAS plug-in.
