NAMM 2008: 12 new models from PRS Guitars
PRS unveils varied guitar designs for the 2008 market
PRS Guitars have unveiled 12 models for the 2008 market. Along with the Mira, reviewed in full right here, here's a snapshot of what to expect...pictures to follow
David Grissom's Signature Model - The DGT
Features an extra volume control, a nitro topcoat, vintage colours, large frets and Grissom's favourite neck shape, which is smaller than a wide-fat neck profile.
The McCarty II
The successor to the McCarty model comes with a carved figured maple top and mahogany back body, 22-fret mahogany wide-fat neck with rosewood fretboard, moon inlays, PRS Stoptail and vintage style tuners. The electronics include new McCarty II Treble and Bass pickups.
The McCarty Korina
The light-weight McCarty model's body, neck and headstock are all crafted from Korina with an East Indian rosewood fretboard.
The Santana MD
The Santana MD is an evolution of the I, II and III models - named after the man himself. The two major differences are the placement of the knobs (now in McCarty positions), and the addition of a Mastering Voice Control. According to PRS, this voice control "provides an early sixties sound".
The New SCJ Thinline
PRS have built a 300-piece run of this large, full-scale hollowbody guitar. Previously, the Thinline was only produced in small quantities inside the Private Stock department. This new model features two different bridge/tailpiece setups and a custom-made Bigsby.
The CE 22/24 Alder
PRS haven't built alder body guitars since the early '90s, but the CE 22/24 - the successor to the CE Mahogany - is solid alder with a bolt-on maple neck.
Singlecut Hollowbody
The SC Hollowbody is offered in two models: the SC Hollowbody I and the Standard. Both feature Stoptail bridges, 22-fret necks, PRS 14:1 low mass locking tuners, archtop treble and bass pickups with covers, volume and tone control and 3-way toggle pickup selector. The difference comes from the tonewood utilised: the Standard has a mahogany body and neck while the SC I features a maple top.
Four more SE Models
Four new SE models have also been introduced: the very cool Mike Mushok signature SE Baritone, the even cooler SE Custom Semi-Hollow Soapbar, the SE Singlecut and the SE Soapbar. The SE Custom SH Soapbar replaces its 2007 model and all of the same features of the SE Singlecut are now available with the addition of a vibrato.
