Is Apple working on a netbook?

An ultra-portable yet affordable Mac laptop is high on many musicians' most-wanted lists, but Apple has yet to make its move in the lucrative netbook market.

However, it's being reported that the company's acting CEO Tim Cook recently hinted that it had "ideas" for such a machine.

The rumours stem from Toni Sacconaghi, a computer analyst who met with Cook. According to Macworld.co.uk, one of his post-meeting comments was that: "Tim Cook stated that since Steve Jobs announced his leave of absence, he was spending more time on new products, how Apple could take the iPhone into new markets and examining iPhone's business model."

Tellingly, Sacconaghi wasn't willing to quote Cook on anything specifically related to an Apple netbook, but then Apple rarely comments on any forthcoming products anyway.

However, the analyst did say that he expects to see new Macs as early as next month - we're guessing that this will be the long-rumoured refresh of the iMac line.
