With the release of the K.ON, ESI has expanded its line-up of MIDI controller keyboards. This is an 88-note model that features a hammer-action keyboard.

Designed for stage or studio use, the K.ON has an aluminium case and features a bank of knobs and faders laid out in a mixer style-format. There are nine of each, plus a numeric keypad, transport controls and various other buttons.

Intriguingly, the K.ON also features four expansion slots. We're told that these are compatible with "existing synthesizer modules from other vendors", and also with forthcoming modules from ESI.

One expansion slot is taken up by an I/O board (this enables USB powering), but you can do what you like with the other three.

Compatible with Mac and PC and shipping with a copy of Cubase LE 4.0, the K.ON costs €599.

Full details can be found at the ESI website.
