Roland updates Cloud Manager and throws in some new FX to the mix

Roland has released a new version of its Cloud service that features a new Cloud Manager and bundle of effects too.

The Roland Cloud Manager 2.0 update focuses on overhauling the user experience with a new interface and more functionality and promises to be both “intuitive and informative”.

The manager now has two modes; system tray (or menu bar) mode and a full application mode. Whilst running in application mode on your desktop, Roland Cloud Manager now provides quick access to relevant news, information and your instrument library.

In system tray mode Roland Cloud Manager continues to run background tasks like downloads, authorisation, checking for updates and other automatic tasks.

Further improvements include setting up a custom path to store Concerto based instruments internally and on external storage devices. You’re also able to update all instruments with a single click, rather than having to redownload an entire instrument.

If you’re subscription has expired, you’ll still be able to log in to Roland Cloud Manager to see new instruments, news, and updates. However, instrument access is still tied to a valid subscription or trial subscription.

New FX and features

In the 5.4 update, Roland Cloud introduced new effects via the Flavr instrument, Resin. As of this latest release, they are included in every Concerto based instrument across the Anthology, Flavr, and Tera series. Here’s a breakdown of the new and existing effects:

  • Stereo Delay with tempo sync, wet/dry adjustment, feedback adjustment
  • Flanger with adjustable depth, rate, feedback, stereo spread, tempo sync and wet/dry mix
  • Stereo Chorus with adjustable depth, rate, feedback, stereo spread, and wet/dry mix
  • Distortion with adjustable overdrive, turbo, wet/dry mix as well as several selectable IR models
  • Reverb that allows you to toggle between classic or convolution reverb models

New for version 5.7

  • Compressor with variable threshold, compression ratio, knee width, makeup gain, attack, and release
  • Portamento is now available for Flavr and Anthology series

All updates come from user feedback, so if you have more suggestions for an upcoming update to the Cloud service, then Roland would love to hear from you. Head on over to the contact page on the Roland Cloud site to share your thoughts.

I take care of the reviews on MusicRadar and Future Music magazine, though can sometimes be spotted in front of a camera talking little sense in the presence of real musicians. For the past 30 years, I have been unable to decide on which instrument to master, so haven't bothered. Currently, a lover of all things high-gain in the guitar stakes and never one to resist churning out sub-standard funky breaks, the likes of which you'll never hear.
