A Gibson Explorer that was played by U2's The Edge went for $150,000 at the Icons Of Music II Auction event, held last Saturday in New York at the Hard Rock Times Square.
The guitar, valued at around $80,000 pre-auction, was just one of the rock star items that sold for record prices. Similarly, a collection of four Beatles D.A. MIllings suits from Madame Tussaud's that was estimated between $60,000 and $80,000 bagged a whopping $144,000.
In all, the auction which benefitted Music Rising (a campaign co-founded by The Edge to aid Gulf Coast musicians) took in over $2 million.
