NAMM 2008: Akira Jimbo designs cymbals for Zildjian

Zildjian have announced new sizes of crashes, Chinas and hi-hats into its K Custom Hybrid Series, thanks to a collaboration with Japanese drummer Akira Jimbo. And, in more NAMM Show news, Zildjian's dark sounding K Light cymbal series has also been tweaked.

K Light

Welcome then, the 22" K Light ride and the 15" and 16" K Light hi-hats. All of the additions come with a traditional finish, the ride is thin in weight while the hi-hats feature a medium-thin weight top cymbal, and a medium weight bottom.

The 16" K Light hi-hats are the first ever 16" hi-hats offered in the K Zildjian range.

The 22" ride is currently being played by Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin) and the rest of the series boasts Travis Barker (+44), Ronnie Vannucci (The Killers), and Joey Castillo (Queens of the Stone Age) among its fans.

K Custom Hybrid

Akira Jimbo has designed a 15", 16" and 18" crash, a 14" hi-hat and a 17" China for the K Custom Hybrid Series, all created using the same 'Hybrid Mastersound' hammering and lathing techniques as you would expect from this series.

Akira Jimbo commented: "I'm very happy the Hybrid Line was accepted by many drummers. They have the power to fly across the borders of musical categories."
