iZotope has added an iPhone/iPod touch version of its popular iDrum application to the Apple App Store. This enables owners of the devices to create beats on the go.

Featuring a wide range of sound and pattern content, iDrum enables users to tap out beats on their touchscreen. A shake of the iPhone or iPod touch will delete the current pattern, while slide and flick gestures can be used to navigate the interface.

You can also exchange projects with the desktop version of iDrum, making this a much more practical tool than some other iPhone music-making apps.

Ingeniously, the relationship between sounds and patterns is shown visually, making it possible to generate rhythms by creating graphical patterns. A companion application, meanwhile, enables you to turn beats into ringtones.

"iZotope sees the iPhone platform as a perfect opportunity to bring mobile music making to everyone," says iZotope CTO Jeremy Todd. "With iDrum for the iPhone and iPod touch, we've created a unique music-making application that is fun for everyone from complete beginners to professional beat-makers."

Two editions of iDrum are available in the App Store now - Hip Hop and Club - and more will be added in the future. They're priced at $4.99 each.
