The notation software market is dominated by two products – Sibelius and Finale – so whenever an update to either is released, it's designed not only to improve on the previous version, but also to trump its rival.
MakeMusic, which develops Finale, is now raising the stakes again with the launch of Finale 2009. This incorporates countless workflow improvements and adds several new features.
You can check out the full list of enhancements on the MakeMusic website, but highlights include Aria, a new integrated sound player from Garritan, and full VST/AU instrument support.
Finale 2009 is expected to start shipping this month, and you can pre-order it now for $600. Upgrade and academic pricing is available.
