Brian Setzer: How to change between picking and fingerstyle
In this video lesson, Brian Setzer reveals how he tackles that most annoying of guitar problems: how exactly do you switch between playing with a flatpick to fingerstyle - and back again - without having to stop playing?
Being a rockabilly guitarist, this is something Brian does pretty often and his solution is simple: as you can see from the video, he curls his first finger around the pick whilst he plays fingerstyle with his remaining fingers and thumb.
You may find it feels awkward playing fingerstlye without your first finger, but it shouldn't take much practice before this feel completely natural. If you really can't get used to it, then try tucking the pick under whichever finger you find easiest.
