Elton John to work on sci-fi/horror period drama

Having scooped an Oscar for one of his songs from The Lion King soundtrack, Elton John knows a thing or two about writing music for movies, but he's certainly set himself a curious challenge with his latest film project.

It's been announced that the star's film company, Rocket Pictures, is to produce Pride and Predator, a sci-fi horror film that features aliens landing in the middle of a costume drama.

BBC News reports that John's partner David Furnish will act as producer, while the Rocket Man himself will supervise the music and fulfil the role of executive producer.

It quotes Furnish as saying: "It felt like a fresh and funny way to blow apart the done-to-death Jane Austen genre."

It's certainly fair to say that nobody has ever done anything quite like this before, but maybe there's a reason for that.

Pride and Predator will be filmed in London later this year.
