For those of you not in the know, in celebration of our forthcoming new-look magazine, TG asked our readers and MusicRadar visitors to vote for their favourite player from a shortlist of 20 metal guitarists. It was a closely fought battle… click through to see the final order and hear them in action.
The new-look Total Guitar magazine goes on sale 18 March and with an extra 32 pages it’s our biggest ever issue! It's my guess that the better guitarists are the ones belonging to bands but big and it is not just to say that one is the best since many have contributed genialities and die the guideline to another guitarists for the better

WHAT! Who exactly compiled this list.
These 20 guitarists are 95% MODERN DAY great guitarists not ALL TIME.
And HENDRIX was closer to a metal guitarist than some of this bunch .

What an aweful list, who in their right mind would put Alexi laiho at the top thats laughable, John Petrruci is about 10000000x More advanced on guitar in terms of technical ability than any one on this list, also seeing is he is actually one of the foremost in the world, and mik thompson 3rd LOL, just a popularity contest, out of this list Petrucci should be first. and Mikael Åkerfeldt 2nd then Fredrik Thorendal third, I cant believe Jeff Loomis hasnt been mentioned, aswell as Ron Jarzombek, Peter Wichers, Tosin Abasi, Paul Antonio Ortiz(Chimp Spanner), John Browne of Monuments, Pin of SiKth, I could go on jesus christ, I realise I've missed out on alot of very gifted muscians but this list is dire.

And the "essential listening" isn't even the song with the nominee's best guitar work, it's just the most popular song of their's.

Yeah, this list was total shit. I mean, sure Mick Thomson isn't a horrible guitarist, but he is SO much worse than anyone else here! And why are Fredrik Thordendal, Kerry King, Marty Friedman, Tom Morello and John Petrucci rated so LOW?

This list is pure garbage, you're missing Chuck Schuldiner. What is this? And Slipknot is not metal. I don't care what anyone says, listen to some real metal. The BEST thing that was done on this list was not putting any metalcore guitarists.
