Oasis want to teach you how to play guitar
Band giveaway Dig Out Your Soul songbook and sheet music
Oasis have teamed up with the Arts Council and NME to giveaway sheet music and song lyrics to three new tracks from latest album Dig Out Your Soul. The band are shunning traditional methods of album promotion to "bring music into a kid's life" by encouraging them to learn guitar.
The giveaway is the brain-child of Noel Gallagher himself, and it's not the first time the guitarist has expressed a desire to encourage young people to make music. Even when MusicRadar asked Noel about the Guitar Hero/Rock Band phenomenon, he was surprisingly positive: "If it puts little plastic guitars into kid's hands and it kind of fires their imaginations then it's a good thing".
"If it gets kids interested in playing guitar - wow".
The package is available with next week's NME (17 September) and includes lyrics and sheet music for Bag It Up, The Turning, (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady and upcoming single The Shock Of The Lightning.
Perhaps Oasis, and the Noel Gallagher spin machine, have gotten wiser. Giving away an 'exclusive' new track when most of the album has leaked onto YouTube isn't enough any more, and this could be a sign of things to come.
