No Ziggy, no Stardust, no Coachella

Recent reports had David Bowie slated to appear as legendary alter-ego Ziggy Stardust at this year's Coachella Festival, which takes place April 17-19 in Indio, California. However, according to a spokesperson for Bowie, the singer won't be assuming his early '70 glam-rock persona.

David Bowie is "not performing at Coachella this year," a representative from Isolar Managment told MusicRadar, putting to rest any performances, Ziggy Stardust or otherwise.

Bowie's laying low (pun intended)

The Coachella gig, had it happened, would have been Bowie's first true return to the stage since he cut short his 2004 world tour after experiencing chest pains during a performance in Germany, which led to an emergency angioplasty to repair a blocked artery.

Since that episode, he's made sporadic guest appearances, including one with Arcade Fire in 2005 and another with David Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall in 2006.

Coachella officials tried to lure Bowie to headline last year's festival, but he refused, so they got Prince instead. It is said the organizers went all out to nab Bowie again this year.

Recording in Berlin

Speaking of low - or Low - as we were before, last week the Thin White Duke posted a message to his fans via Twitter that said, "Greetings from a snowy Berlin! Working on some new material."

That's all she wrote, but even still, this is great news for the millions of music lovers who embraced the groundbreaking albums of the mid-to-late '70s that Bowie recorded in that city. We can only hope he recaptures a trace of that same spirit.
