SOAD To Represent Armenia At Eurovision '09?!
Now this would be a sight to behold... System Of A Down could be representing Armenia at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest.
The madcap Armenian-American rockers, who are on an indefinite hiatus thanks to frontman Serj Tankian's solo project and guitarist Daron Malakian's new band Scars On Broadway, have expressed an interest in entering the notoriously cheesy contest next year.
Tankian let it slip that the group would consider reforming and performing only if they would be allowed to use Eurovision as a means to advance the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
"Eurovision would be an excellent way to make this theme known. We must seriously think of this," he said.
SOAD have long-campaigned for Armenian Genocide recognition, ever since their garage band days, and are noted for the liberal political views expressed in their songs.
