Youtube Moments of Blues Guitar Greatness!
First you had great acoustic moments now here's the spotlight for Blues Players…
Who?
Matt ‘Guitar´ Murphy
When? 1963
Why?
Murphy was a Blues guitarist of legendary status in the ‘60s who found fame with the Blues Brothers. His fluid Blues approach tends to go unnoticed today, so that´s why we´ve included him in our Unknown Guitar Greats. Murphy has more soul than a KFC variety bucket, and enough refreshing Blues chops to occupy even the most hungry Blueser for an afternoon. Remember, this approach is all about timing, groove, and feel.
Best bit?
The rhythmic eyebrow movement at 2.04 is quite impressive and equally integral to the music.

Who?
Terry Robb a.k.a. 'The Acoustic Blues Master'
When? July 2007
Why?
Anyone with the label of ‘Acoustic Blues Master´ is a) very brave, and b) has a great deal to live up to!! Posting a video on YouTube is a risky business at the best of times, especially as many users enjoy throwing insults and unabashed criticism at anyone they deem inferior. Surely this is like running into a hungry bear's den with a big pot of honey... . Whatever, this is top notch stuff!

Robb launches into a rather fast-paced version of Steel Guitar Rag at 3.07

Who?
Corey Harris (Special Rider Blues)
When?
June 2008
Why?
Harris really is an authentic Blues guitarist challenging the music of his ancestors. Harris' music acknowledges his African-American roots, which he uses as a fuel to power his compositions. His influences include Charlie Patton, Skip James, and Muddy Waters; all of whom are evident in his sound. Listening to Harris play is like taking a step back in time. Harris elaborates on his philosophy, "To know who you are, you've got to know your past. To know where you're going, you've got to know where you've been".

The riff at 0.15, which is repeated in the vocal melody throughout the song.

Who?
Alvin Youngblood Hart
When?
February 2006
Why?
Hart is another musician keeping alive the authenticity of the Blues. This clip shows an aggressive Rock-fused Blues. His playing constantly emphasises feel over technique - something that can get lost in modern digital recordings where every note has to be quantized and sucked of all life.

Taj Mahal has been quoted as saying; "the boy has got thunder in his hands". Check out 2.40 for an explosive example.

Who?
Tyson Mcllroy
When?
June 2007
Why?
This blues cat was just thirteen years old when this live gig was recorded. Although his performance is not technically demanding (some might even say it is not particularly inspired), Mcllroy manages to nail the vibe perfectly. He manages to hold his own even when improvising live with musicians that are well over three times his age. Great stuff!
Best bit?
1.56 when Mcllroy launches into his first improvised solo.
