NAMM 2007 Highlights: Fender Amps

There´s a real buzz surrounding Fender´s amplification department, with two new combos guaranteed to make tonehounds prick up their ears.

The ‘57 Deluxe is an all-tube, hand-wired combo that kicks out 12-watts via an authentic 5E3 circuit. In a similar vein to the original, the combo is loaded with a 12-inch Jensen P-12Q speaker and driven by a pair of matched Groove Tubes 6V6 power tubes, two further 12AX7 preamp valves, one of which may be substituted with a 12AY7 for the original ‘50s lower-gain sound, and a 5Y3GT rectifier.

If all that wasn´t enough Fender will also be producing just 300 of The Fender ´57 Amp, a model that assumes what Leo might have done had he considered making an amp that was more ‘showy´ that the usual tweed offerings. Rated at 12-watts, this is a real collector´s item that also sounds wonderful.

What he doesn't know about Brian May's playing and, especially, the Red Special, isn't worth knowing.
