This Friday (that's the 8/8/08) Japanese noise group, the Boredoms, will gather 88 drummers from both coasts of America to take part in 88BoaDrum. The event, sequel to last year's rather more modest 77BoaDrum, will take place at Los Angeles' La Brea Tar Pits and New York's Williamsburg Waterfront.

Featured drummers include Animal Collective's Brian Weitz, We Are Scientists' Michael Tapper and Patty Schemel from Juliette and the Licks.

Things will kick off in New York at 8:08 PM (Eastern Standard Time), with the drummers organised by Brooklyn's Gang Gang Dance, then continue in LA at 8:08 PM (Pacific Standard Time), conducted by the Boredom's Eye and Hisham Bharoocha of Soft Circle. So, we're guessing that makes 176 drummers in total.

The event is bizarrely being sponsored by Nike Sportsware, who will produce commemorative (and free to all ticket holders) '88BoaDrum NSW Tee Collection' shirts for the occasion. We can't wait to hear what the hell 88 drummers sound like together, but for those who can't bear the suspense you can check out last year's 77BoaDrum on YouTube.
