Following on from the likes of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, details have emerged from the January 2008 CES show in Las Vegas of a new game entitled Guitar Wizard.

What has this got to do with serious music making, you may be wondering? The answer is that the software ships with a bona fide Washburn electric guitar with a MIDI pickup, and additionally the pickup itself can be used with any six string instrument.

The bundled software is apparently already packaged with the Mattel 'I Can Play Guitar' toy targeted at children, but Guitar Wizard promises to be a complete guitar learning experience. US RRP looks set to be around $180.

As far as we are concerned, if products like this encourage more people to pick up musical instruments then they can only be a good thing. What do you think?
