Lostprophets' Rubin joins Nine Inch Nails

Ilan Rubin

, best known for playing with with Welsh rockers

Lostprophets

, has been hand-picked by Trent Reznor to join the

Nine Inch Nails

when they begin touring again in 2009.

Rubin replaces Josh Freese who will depart the band at the end of its current US tour.

Writing on the

Nine Inch Nails website

, Reznor said: "I had the chance to see Ilan playing his ass off at Reading and Leeds [festivals in the UK] a couple summers ago and he blew me away. We recently invited him out to rehearse with us and he blew US away — the perfect guy to pick up the sticks after Josh leaves us at the end of the year."

I'm MusicRadar's eCommerce Editor. In addition to testing the latest music gear, with a particular focus on electronic drums, it's my job to manage the 300+ buyer's guides on MusicRadar and help musicians find the right gear for them at the best prices. I dabble with guitar, but my main instrument is the drums, which I have been playing for 24 years. I've been a part of the music gear industry for 20 years, including 7 years as Editor of the UK's best-selling drum magazine Rhythm, and 5 years as a freelance music writer, during which time I worked with the world's biggest instrument brands including Roland, Boss, Laney and Natal.
