Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian reveal their favourite drum and keyboard parts on supergroup Sons Of Apollo’s almighty debut

Perhaps this year’s most exciting supergroup, Sons Of Apollo boast former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian, Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal, Billy Sheehan and Jeff Scott Soto among their virtuoso-studded ranks.

The band’s debut album, Psychotic Symphony, arrives today, so we took the time to quiz Mike and Derek on their favourite drum and keyboard performances on the record, how their musical relationship has evolved and bringing Bumblefoot into the mix.

Psychotic Symphony is available now (opens in new tab) via InsideOutMusic.

Mike is Editor-in-Chief of GuitarWorld.com (opens in new tab), in addition to being an offset fiend and recovering pedal addict. He has a master's degree in journalism, and has spent the past decade writing and editing for guitar publications including MusicRadar, Total Guitar and Guitarist, as well as a decade-and-a-half performing in bands of variable genre (and quality). In his free time, you'll find him making progressive instrumental rock under the nom de plume Maebe (opens in new tab).
