Prince: Loving his guitar again, it seems.

Four new songs from Prince have been played by former Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones on his US radio show.

The tracks, three of which are heavily guitar-based, were played on Jonesy's Jukebox on Indie 103.1 FM. The first was a cover of Tommy James and the Shondells' Crimson and Clover, though this also features elements of The Troggs' Wild Thing.

Next up was the riff-heavy Colonized Mind, and this was followed by the funkier Wall Of Berlin. 4ever, the final song played, is a piano-powered ballad.

Music blog LA Weekly reports that Indie 103.1 FM's Mr Shovel claimed that Prince invited the station to his house to hear a selection of new songs.

""He played a lot of tracks, more than what we brought, an album's worth," he explained.

However, it seems that the Purple One hasn't yet worked out how he's going to release the new record: "He doesn't want anything to do with labels," claims Shovel, before adding that the new material will be promoted with a series of gigs.

Prince's last album, Planet Earth, was given away with UK tabloid The Mail On Sunday – whether he'll go down a similar route this time remains to be seen.

Rips of some of the new songs have appeared online, but recent history suggests that Prince will quickly demand that these are removed.
