"It still feels premature"

The Foo Fighters' Greatest Hits was released this week, but the band's frontman, guitarist and singer Dave Grohl, doesn't sound too thrilled about it, likening it to "an obituary."

In an interview with The BBC, Grohl revealed that the group was asked by their label to do a hits disc a while back - and said no. "They started asking about four years ago, and we said, 'Don't we need some hits?'"

Even though Grohl and co eventually acquiesed, even recording two new tracks, Wheels (see video below) and Word Forward, for the 16-track set, the head Foo remains ambivalent.

"It still seems premature because we're still a functioning, active band," he said. "It's like a CliffsNotes version of what we've been doing for the last 15 years." Grohl even found fault with the tracklist: "I think there are better songs than some of those."

While Foo Fighters are taking "a long break," Grohl is now ready to rock with a band that probably won't be releasing a greatest hits collection anytime soon, Them Crooked Vultures, his new 'supergroup' that sees him drumming behind former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and Queens Of The Stone Age's guitarist and singer Josh Homme.

I own the 1st 2 Foo's albums, and have a heard a lions share of some of the others, and I must say they're not albums I can put on and listen the whole way through.
However, a concise abbreviation of the hits, or the stuff they play on the radio, would appeal to me- as I would imagine it would to the non diehard fans. Looking at the tracklisting, I would begrudge that Walking After You and The One aren't on there though.
