Marcus King is one of today’s most respected guitarists - and one listen to the impeccable tone and enviable playing on this intimate performance tells you why.
The leader of the Marcus King Band was filmed performing Side Door live in Austin, Texas, where he not only delivers some of the tastiest licks in guitar today, but also explains how he keeps his vintage Gibsons sounding great night after night: Elixir Optiweb Coated Electric Guitar Strings.
“I’ve been using Elixir Strings for about five or six years, maybe a little longer,” King reveals.
“I like how long the strings last - I have a lot of vintage instruments at the house, and when you get them out of the case, the strings still feel fresh after they’ve been sitting there. You come home off the road, and it’s kind of a pain having to change them all the time.
“We change them fairly regularly on the road, just ’cause of the stress, but they handle the heat and the cold better than any other string.”
King goes on to reveal that he’s even switched his dad over to the coated strings.
“My dad’s a player, Marvin, and my grandfather before him was a player. My dad used another string for years - he’s 66 years old, I got him using Elixir strings, so I recommend ’em to everybody now.”
