Learn to play John Mayer's Continuum song I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)

For many John Mayer fans 2006's Continuum album remains his creative high watermark; a guitarist and songwriter coming into his own, with meticulously-crafted production. But while Mayer's third record is rightly acclaimed for its well-known live staples like Gravity and Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, the album's status is cemented by the strength of the deeper cuts; like the soulful I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You). And fortunately that song is the perfect choice for Elixir® Strings artist Shannon Lauren Callihan to teach us.

Listening to Nashville-based musician Shannon's own neo-soul-leaning music, it makes sense that she'd gravitate to this as one of her favourite Mayer tracks. For the rest of us it's a great way to learn about Mayer's approach to guitar hooks and groove, because it's an accessible track to learn – especially compared to the finger-twisting likes of Neon!

In addition to her solo work, Shannon is also now guitar player and backing vocalist for Maggie Rogers on her European tour in June. This year has also seen the release of her single, Live With That. In all her musical work, Shannon uses Elixir® Electric Nickel Plated Steel Strings with OPTIWEB® Coating in 9-46 gauge on her electric guitars.

"I've been playing Elixir® Strings since I first started playing guitar," says Shannon. "They have continued to be my string of choice throughout my guitar journey. The thing that I love most about Elixir® Strings is they have great tone and they last a really long time. And if you're anything like me and you hate changing strings, I'm telling you; these strings will be your new best friend."
