There’s a good reason why Arturia is heavily associated with plugin emulations of classic hardware - it does a great job of them. However, this doesn’t mean that its software is only suitable for producers who want that ‘old-school’ sound. In fact, its new FX Collection 3 could be the perfect plugin effect bundle for modern workflows.
Now featuring a whopping 26 plugins, FX Collection 3 contains both faithful emulations of classic studio hardware and envelope-pushing contemporary effects. This makes it suitable for all kinds of producer; whatever kind of sound you’re creating, you get the perfect balance between vintage and modern.
What sets these plugins apart is their character - they can breathe life into previously sterile sounds and enhance your creativity. And with more than 250 pro-grade presets included, getting the tone you’re looking for is remarkably easy.
Version 3 of FX Collection includes four new effects, starting with Dist TUBE-CULTURE, a modernised take on valve saturation. This can add colour and harmonic life to your sounds - use it to bring warmth to your drum busses or extra authority to your rock vocals, for example.
Then there’s Dist OPAMP-21 - a saturation effect that’s inspired by a ‘go direct’ guitar pedal that’s become a cult classic. It’s full of tube-like harmonics and high-gain crunch, and not just for guitars, either. Check out Tchad Blake’s productions for Arctic Monkeys, for example, in which he uses it creatively to process drum and vocal busses.
If you’re looking to get more experimental, there’s also Efx FRAGMENTS, the highly-rated granular processor that’s great for glitchy stutters, grainy stereo ambience and out-there textures. Try using it to create intricate textures on pop vocals or to spice up your hi-hat grooves with rhythmic patterns. In fact, you can use it to divide, transform and rebuild any sound.
Finally, there’s Tape MELLO-FI, a chilled-out, vibey effect for adding tape warmth and lo-fi cool.
FX Collection 3 adds a few workflow updates, too, such as two oversampling modes, A/B comparisons and improved plugin interfaces that will streamline your workflow and make preset loading faster and easier.
So, whether you’re a musician, a producer, a mixing engineer or a sound designer, FX Collection 3 has something to offer. If your music is missing that je ne sais quoi, look no further.
