If you’re performing live, it’s not just about having good sound for your audience - you need high-quality monitoring for yourself, too. What you’re looking for is a reliable speaker that provides accurate feedback, and that’s where the Yamaha DHR12M comes in.

This is part of the brand’s wider DHR range— this includes five loudspeakers, each of which is suitable to play a particular role in your live sound setup. With its wedge design, the DHR12M is the perfect floor monitor, offering great performance in a durable package.

Spec-wise, what we have here is a 2-way bi-amp powered loudspeaker that features a 12-inch woofer and a 1.75-inch HF driver, presented in a space-saving coaxial configuration with a custom-designed constant directivity horn. You get 1,000 watts worth of power, and the 90-degree by 60-degree coverage angle means wide sonic coverage.

The DHR12M is designed to perform equally well at all volume levels, too, thanks to the inclusion of the Yamaha D-Contour intelligent multiband compressor. This ensures that the mix stays consistent, regardless of how loud you go. Speaking of onboard DSP, there are two EQ modes, too: one for monitoring, and another for when the DHR12M is being used as a front-of-house/main speaker and is either flying or mounted on a pole. Flipping the switch on the back panel to MON setting is particularly helpful in avoiding feedback for mic’d vocals and guitars when using as an on-stage monitor.

This goes some way to illustrating just how flexible this speaker is. As well as being useful for live musicians, it’s also built for DJs and using at events. A built-in 2-channel mixer increases the versatility even more.

You’re pretty much guaranteed to be using the DHR12M for a long time, too. The plywood construction is the same as you’d find in the brand’s higher-end DZR series, and your purchase is backed up by a 7-year warranty. If you’re looking for a sign that Yamaha is confident in the DHR12M’s roadworthiness and durability, there you go.
