DRUMS WEEK 2025: Zildjian, a name synonymous with quality cymbals for nearly 400 years, has expanded into the electronic drum world with the Alchem-E series.
Launched in 2024, this is Zildjian’s first electronic drum kit offering, blending the feel of an acoustic set with the flexibility and versatility of digital technology.
At the centre of the Alchem-E is the E-Vault module, loaded with a broad range of meticulously sampled acoustic drums and cymbals, including Zildjian’s K, A, and S series.
The module offers multiple connectivity options (Bluetooth audio, USB, MIDI) and provides eight balanced outputs, making it suitable for both studio use and live performance. With 32GB of onboard memory and USB compatibility, it supports regular updates to expand its sound library.
What truly sets Alchem-E apart is the E-Family cymbals. Made from real alloy and featuring multi-zone triggering with edge, bow, and bell sensitivity, these cymbals deliver a natural playing experience that’s closer to acoustic cymbals than most electronic alternatives. They also offer responsive choke capability and 360-degree triggering for enhanced expressivity.
Drum pads complement the cymbals with real wood shells and mesh heads, designed to replicate the feel of acoustic drums. Recent firmware updates have further refined triggering accuracy, making the pads even more responsive and expressive, and many players have praised the pads for their dynamic response, delivering a more natural feel than any other e-kit on the market.
Beyond its hardware, the E-Vault is designed to act as a powerful creative workstation. Its software allows real-time editing, layered kits, and seamless integration with DAWs, making it suitable for both practice and composition. It supports MIDI and USB connections, which allow drummers to connect easily to a wide range of music technology setups.

Setting a bold new standard for the electronic kit, Alchem-E stands out for its acoustic authenticity and forward-thinking design. For drummers interested in bridging the gap between traditional and electronic playing, it offers a compelling alternative from a company with deep roots in percussion.
