Radiohead have announced the winners of the band's long-running Aniboom animation contest.
And, as Radiohead like being contrary, they've picked four winners, not just one, due to "the high caliber and creative visions of the submissions."
The competition was open to any animator who thought they could capture the spirit of any of the 10 tracks on the original release of Radiohead's 2007 album, In Rainbows. Over 900 storyboards were submitted, which were whittled down to 10 semi-finalists. The winning filmmaker was to receive $10,000 from the Aniboom website to make a full-length animated video for Radiohead, but all four winners will now get that sum with the band paying the extra $30,000 themselves.
First Radiohead give away their album, now they're giving away their money. How kind of them. Though they will get four videos for a tidy sum,of course...
The four winners are:
I know which is my favourite – Weird Fishes/Arpeggi – but that's because I like the song better than the others. Still, it shows there's plenty of creative Radiohead fans out there.
