Coldplay's Chris Martin has walked out of an interview with BBC Radio 4's arts show Front Row. The emotional frontman asked to leave after nine minutes because he wasn't enjoying himself and found the questions difficult to answer. Drummer Will Champion continued the interview before Martin returned for a final question.

The show's presenter John Wilson began by asking about comments made at an awards show in 2005 where Coldplay claimed they would not be seen for "a very long time". Wilson continued to question the band's change of direction, influences and the apparent "ongoing morbid fascination with death".

Chris Martin replied: "I find these sort of questions really hard to answer. I'd say you're journalistically twisting me into saying something I don't really mean".

A question regarding the inspiration behind the artwork for latest album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends was the final straw for Martin, who quietly requested to leave the studio: "I'm not really enjoying this – I just don't really like having to talk about things".

To be fair to Chris Martin, the interviewer was being very odd too, asking nonsense questions and accusing him of having a morbid fascination... The whole thing reeked of an interviewer who didn't know what he was doing and had no interest in Coldplay whatsoever.
He was being childish and irritating, he was simply making a few jokes which the interviewer deal with very well at all. I'm not saying he was right to walk out of the interview but you don't know what went on behind the scenes, before the interview etc etc.
How on earth are Coldplay a corporate band? Just because they are successful?

"What he should understand is that there are 1000's of up and coming better bands out there that would have died for that interview and exposure that he wasted. "
He got more attention by walking out of the interview than he'd have got from the interview itself - none of the articles covering the story made any mention of the questions Will Champion answered in his absence. This was a publicity victory.

Now if only he could walk out of the music industry I would be a happy man. Sorry if I offend anyone with that comment but I just do not like Coldplay. They are a dull and boring corporate band and represent everything that I see wrong with the industry.
What he should understand is that there are 1000's of up and coming better bands out there that would have died for that interview and exposure that he wasted.

I didn't know until now that Chris Martin had walked out of this interview, I had turned off due to the irritating and childish behaviour of the man. A common sense Arts programme on Britains best radio station and all this spoilt rich person can do is to act like an awkward schoolboy, fluffing questions (which actually tried at least to be scratching the surface of the band) giving facile non-sensical half interested answers and wasting valuable air time and my time.
They could have given 1001 bands this chance to speak intelliogently about their music and it would have been seized with enthusiasm, cant remember the last time I actually reached for the off button, there you go.
