<p><strong>For serious podcasters, creators, streamers, and even musicians who demand solid capture without fuss, </strong><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Shure-MV7-Microphone-Certified-Podcasting/dp/B0CTJ8BSWN/ref=sr_1_1_sspa"><u><strong>a cool 15% off the Shure MV7+ is well worth your attention</strong></u></a><strong>. I use the MV7+ personally and find it’s the </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-podcasting-microphones"><u><strong>best podcast microphone</strong></u></a><strong> for the money, so when it goes on sale, the attention is justified. </strong></p><p>Thanks to its hybrid USB/XLR connectivity, impressive onboard DSP, and ease of use the MV7+ can cover a lot of ground. The marriage of broadcast-level pedigree (drawing on the legacy of models like the SM7 line) with modern, creator-friendly features: USB-C, XLR, real-time denoiser, Auto-Level gain control, digital pop filter, and a sleek LED touch-panel, cos it’s got to look good on the streams right? </p><ul><li><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Shure-MV7-Microphone-Certified-Podcasting/dp/B0CTJ8BSWN/ref=sr_1_1_sspa"><u>Grab the Shure MV7+ with a massive 15% off at Amazon</u></a></li></ul><p>It’s more than a pretty mic, though. In my sessions, the MV7+ has saved me plenty of times, thanks to those features that reduce cleanup time and make everything sound great from the first take. Which, for someone who records spoken word, voice-overs, and streams, is a real win.</p><p>What kind of discount can you expect in the <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-black-friday-music-deals">Black Friday music deals</a>? With the sale offering 15% off, the MV7+ drops into a tier where you can justify it not just as a “nice to have” but genuinely as a direct upgrade. From typical list pricing of $319 down to $269, it moves it firmly into the interesting value territory and is well worth a dip. </p><div class="product"><a data-dimension112="29d453a4-7a1c-4f6d-a5ae-c5457258b2bb" data-action="Deal Block" data-label="dynamic mic" data-dimension48="dynamic mic" data-dimension25="$269.95" href="https://www.amazon.com/Shure-MV7-Microphone-Certified-Podcasting/dp/B0CTJ8BSWN/ref=sr_1_1_sspa" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><figure class="van-image-figure " ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:100.00%;"><img id="msaHxw8Q3AmpSvGyEXdhYa" name="Shure MV7+ deal block" caption="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/msaHxw8Q3AmpSvGyEXdhYa.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="600" height="600" attribution="" endorsement="" credit="" class=""></p></div></div></figure></a><p>The Shure MV7+ is a hybrid USB-C/XLR <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-dynamic-microphones" data-dimension112="29d453a4-7a1c-4f6d-a5ae-c5457258b2bb" data-action="Deal Block" data-label="dynamic mic" data-dimension48="dynamic mic" data-dimension25="$269.95"><u>dynamic mic</u></a> that delivers broadcast-grade voice capture with minimal fuss. Someone kept flushing the toilet behind me as well. Martin had quite a lot of little jokes for the artists and we did record that song in a toilet with quite a cheap microphone, a Shure SM58. But I’m not complaining.”</p><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="high" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/uPudE8nDog0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><p>Don’t You Want Me was released when The Human League were in their first flush (sorry) of commercial success, with its parent album, Dare, going on to sell huge numbers of copies.</p><p>The band's Australian tour earlier this year saw them playing the album in its entirety, which necessitated them shipping out synths from Sheffield. “We can’t hire them in because then we’d sound like a cover band,” Oakey says.</p><p>Despite The Human League’s longevity, Oakey is modest about the band’s talent and achievements. “We’re not musicians. We never trained,” he says. “We’ve managed to continue as a band by always just feeling lucky about everything we’ve ever done. I have never been the greatest songwriter in this group. I’ve never been the best singer in this group. I’m not a very good frontman or anything, we just do our best and hope that the audience will fill in the rest.”</p><p><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-40-greatest-synth-sounds-of-all-time-no-15-human-league-dont-you-want-me">You can check out our guide to recreating Don’t You Want Me’s monster synth riff here</a>, and the good news is that we won’t make you do it in a toilet.</p><p><strong>• Get more recording stories and features at </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/recordingweek24"><strong>Recording Week 2024 here!</strong></a></p>

<p><strong>The choice of microphones available to, let’s be honest, people who aren’t emotionally invested in microphones, is mind-boggling these days. You see, not everybody wants to mess around with </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-audio-interfaces" target="_blank"><u><strong>audio interfaces</strong></u></a><strong> and a sea of cables and wires. The notion of being able to unpack, plug in and use a mic with the minimum of fuss is massively appealing, and the big mic brands are well aware of this.</strong></p><p>Hence why I have the Shure MV6, a new dynamic <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-usb-microphones"><u>USB microphone</u></a>, in for review. The MV6 is aimed squarely at content creators, streamers, and podcasters who want high-quality audio without the complications of more advanced studio-style setups. Essentially, if you’ve ever wanted to up your <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-podcasting-microphones" target="_blank"><u>podcasting microphone</u></a> game, but haven’t got the stomach for adding audio interfaces, XLR cables and more into your setup, then the MV6 could be the perfect option for you. <br><br>It promises user-friendly design and top-tier noise isolation features, meaning it’s ideal for capturing clear vocals in a variety of environments. As part of Shure’s growing line of devices catering to the home studio and streaming markets (including the recent <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/music-tech/microphones/shure-sm4-review"><u>Shure SM4</u></a>), the MV6 could be a real winner if it gets the basics right, i.e. simplicity, ease of use, and high-quality audio recordings. Let’s find out if it does that. </p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-mv6-review-what-is-it"><span>Shure MV6 review: What is it?</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1200px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="HFUXeGNZCG7aFpDohq7WuX" name="Shure MV6" alt="Side shot of the Shure MV6 microphone" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/HFUXeGNZCG7aFpDohq7WuX.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1200" height="675" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><p>It’s clear when unboxing the MV6 that this isn’t a mic designed for studio snobs or audiophile producers. That’s not a criticism, by the way. The mic itself, for a start, comes with a pretty standard matte black chassis, but is punctuated by pops of lime green to introduce a bit of visual appeal. The theory being, I guess, that the mic will appear on cameras and live-streams, so you may as well have something that looks good.</p><p>Up front, the Shure MV6 promises plug-and-play functionality, making it exceptionally easy to use, even for beginners. The ubiquitous USB-C connection on the mic’s bottom allows for easy connection with computers or mobile devices, bypassing the need for a separate <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-audio-interfaces"><u>audio interface</u></a>, while a 3.5mm headphone out means you can monitor your sound as you’re streaming or recording. It’s so simple and executed flawlessly.</p><p>At the heart of the MV6 is its dynamic capsule, which is ideal for speech and vocals. A cardioid polar pattern, designed to isolate the user's voice while minimising background noise, further adds to its desktop speech credentials. This is especially beneficial for those working in noisy or untreated environments, where controlling ambient sound is difficult. The mic's frequency response (50 Hz to 15 kHz) is optimised for vocal clarity, delivering crisp, focused audio that’s ideal for voice recording but slightly limited for capturing instruments with higher frequency detail. Put simply; if you’re looking for something to record your <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-acoustic-guitars-available-today"><u>acoustic guitar</u></a> then there are better options available to you at a similar price point.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1200px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="i2PjxjwmwDmZoVgybbEjvX" name="Shure MV6" alt="Shure MV6 microphone mute button" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/i2PjxjwmwDmZoVgybbEjvX.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1200" height="675" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><p>The MV6 also features auto-level mode, which adjusts the microphone's sensitivity based on the distance between the user and the mic. This helps maintain consistent audio levels during dynamic recording sessions or streams, where users might shift around without realising it. Additionally, the built-in digital popper stopper minimises harsh plosive sounds, allowing for smoother vocal recordings without needing a separate pop filter.</p><p>In my opinion, a standout feature of the MV6 is its integration with the Shure MOTIV Mix app. This extends the microphone’s functionality massively and offers users much more control over their audio settings, granting access to a range of audio customization options, such as tone adjustment and noise reduction. Velvety broadcast tones are but a few clicks of the app away at all times.</p><p>One of the MOTIV Mix app’s most notable features is auto-levelling, which ensures your audio stays consistent even as you move closer or further away from the mic. This is particularly useful for streamers or podcasters who might not always maintain a consistent distance from the microphone during recording sessions. The app also offers three distinct tone presets - Dark, Natural, and Bright - allowing users to tailor the sound to suit different recording environments or personal preferences, making it much easier to capture professional-sounding audio without the need for external equipment.</p><p>Additionally, the app’s noise reduction feature helps to filter out unwanted background noise, such as fan hums or room reverb, ensuring a cleaner vocal track. While the noise reduction can sometimes be overly aggressive, cutting out subtler details in the recording, it’s an invaluable tool for users working in less-than-ideal recording spaces.</p><p>However, it's worth noting that the microphone itself lacks physical gain or volume controls, meaning all adjustments need to be made within the MOTIV Mix app. While this keeps the design sleek and compact, some users might miss the tactile feedback of manual control knobs.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-mv6-review-performance-verdict"><span>Shure MV6 review: Performance & verdict</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1200px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="srEGwRzsrfEwz7U4srsp9Y" name="Shure MV6" alt="The Shure MV6 with the foam windshield removed" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/srEGwRzsrfEwz7U4srsp9Y.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1200" height="675" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><p>In real-world testing, I found the Shure MV6 excelled at delivering clean, professional-quality speech recordings. You’d expect it to do this anyway, but with the super-loud fan from my old gaming PC making it sound like lift-off at Cape Canaveral, the MV6 had an additional challenge to overcome. Thankfully, the mic was able to effectively block out that awful din, producing virtually noise-free recordings. Impressive. The auto-levelling feature, which ensures that your voice remains clear and consistent throughout your recording, was also put through its paces and performed as well as you’d expect. These two factors mean Shure’s promise of it being ideal for podcasters, streamers, and even voiceover artists who require a simple but reliable mic for spoken word recording rang true.</p><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Also consider</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><figure class="van-image-figure " ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="YMNCb8pTeQos7VBCDSeeqb" name="sE Electronics Neom USB review 1.jpg" caption="" alt="sE Electronics Neom USB review" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YMNCb8pTeQos7VBCDSeeqb.jpg" mos="" link="" align="" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pinterest-pin-exclude"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=""><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><a data-analytics-id="inline-link" href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/blue-microphones-yeti-review">Blue Yeti</a><br><a data-analytics-id="inline-link" href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/se-electronics-neom-usb">sE electronics Neom</a><br><a data-analytics-id="inline-link" href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/one-of-the-most-versatile-feature-laden-mics-for-podcasting-shure-mv7-review">Shure MV7+</a></p></div></div><p>The microphone’s real-time denoiser and popper-stopper had a positive impact on both the quality of the captured sound and the ease with which it could be edited afterwards. In comparison to other USB microphones like the veteran <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/blue-microphones-yeti-review"><u>Blue Yeti</u></a> or gamer-focused <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/razer-seiren-x-review"><u>Razer Seiren</u></a>, I found the MV6 offered better background noise rejection which, when combined with the usual Shure levels of high-quality audio, makes it a better all-round choice. </p><p>What the MV6 lacks is an XLR output. This may or may not be an issue for you. However if you’re looking for more versatility, and the ability to choose between the simplicity of USB and the depth of a traditional XLR connection, then <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/one-of-the-most-versatile-feature-laden-mics-for-podcasting-shure-mv7-review"><u>Shure’s own MV7+</u></a> might be a better - albeit more expensive - choice. The voice isolation functionality on the MV6, however, is a nifty trick you don’t see at this end of the price spectrum, ensuring your voice is always front and centre. I was also really impressed with the MOTIV Mix app, which went way above and beyond what you’d expect from a complementary app, giving you much deeper control over a variety of parameters which will make you sound the best you possibly can.<br><br>Overall, the Shure MV6 is a well-rounded, highly effective microphone that punches well above its price tag in terms of both build quality and performance. Its easy setup, superb noise isolation, and integration with the MOTIV Mix app make it a standout choice for content creators, podcasters, and streamers looking to up their audio game. While it might not satisfy users who prefer deeper, manual control over their settings, the app-based adjustments and auto-levelling offer a simple, intuitive way to capture consistent, high-quality audio. For those needing a step up from cheaper, more basic <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-condenser-mics"><u>condenser microphones</u></a>, the MV6 is an excellent investment.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-mv6-review-hands-on-demos"><span>Shure MV6 review: Hands-on demos</span></h3><h2 id="brian-macduff">Brian MacDuff</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/lGKJ-ikSifo" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="wasabi">Wasabi</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/VIdvN-moeCs" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="las-curry">LAS Curry</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/pZl-SL4A5AI" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-mv6-review-specifications"><span>Shure MV6 review: Specifications</span></h3><ul><li><strong>Type:</strong> Dynamic</li><li><strong>Polar pattern:</strong> Cardioid</li><li><strong>Frequency response:</strong> 50Hz to 15kHz</li><li><strong>Connection:</strong> USB-C</li><li><strong>Weight:</strong> 1,287g (inc. stand)</li><li><strong>Contact:</strong> <a href="https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/microphones/mv6" target="_blank"><u>Shure</u></a></li></ul>

<h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-sm4-review-what-is-it"><span>Shure SM4 review: What is it?</span></h3><p><strong>In the world of </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-microphones-for-recording"><u><strong>recording microphones</strong></u></a><strong>, few names command respect as much as Shure. From its industry-standard </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/shure-sm57-review"><u><strong>SM57</strong></u></a><strong> and </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/shure-sm58-review"><u><strong>SM58</strong></u></a><strong> mics, through to the broadcast and </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-podcasting-microphones"><u><strong>podcast mic</strong></u></a><strong> royalty that is the </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/shure-sm7b-review"><u><strong>SM7b</strong></u></a><strong>, Shure knows a thing or two about a thing or two. Hence why we were so excited when it announced it had a new mic ready for us to test, namely the Shure SM4.</strong></p><p>As a large-diaphragm <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-condenser-mics"><u>condenser microphone</u></a>, designed for home studio users who need pro-grade sound without lots of hassle, the SM4 is an enticing proposition. It features a cardioid polar pattern, rejecting noise from the sides and rear, making it perfect for recording vocals or instruments at home. It also has some unique proprietary tech thanks to the inclusion of an interference shield which acts as a Faraday cage to protect the mic’s capsule from microwave interference. </p><p>Think of how many screens, mobile devices and other electronic things you have in your recording space. Each of these has the potential to add unwanted noise and gremlins to your recordings, so the inclusion of a shield to protect against these is so good you wonder why they aren’t present on more mics. Sure, you can faff around with ferrite capsules, but it’s better if the mic just deals with it itself right?</p><p>A lot of thought has gone into the overall package too, with small details like the length of the elastic bands on the shock mount tweaked to improve performance. So, potentially, there’s a lot to like here. But how does it measure up in the studio? Let’s take a look.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-sm4-review-performance-verdict"><span>Shure SM4 review: Performance & verdict</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1200px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.33%;"><img id="a2TQrJT8p2YeJPGyaZ7kQZ" name="Shure SM4 microphone" alt="Shure SM4 microphone in this writer's home studio" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/a2TQrJT8p2YeJPGyaZ7kQZ.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1200" height="676" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Standard testing procedure for large diaphragm mics means I test each with an <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-acoustic-guitars-available-today"><u>acoustic guitar</u></a>, from multiple angles, and then a speech reading from a variety of different scripts. In each of these tests, the SM4 performed admirably. In purely sonic terms the SM4 shone, capturing rich mid-range frequencies, making it an ideal choice for vocals and acoustic instruments. It picked up plenty in the way of detail without ever being overly harsh, which means I captured a polished sound that didn’t require too much post-production.</p><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Also consider</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><figure class="van-image-figure " ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="x7pURr5cUjApcab47K2bGM" name="Rode NT1A 169.jpg" caption="" alt="Best XLR Microphones: Rode NT1-A" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/x7pURr5cUjApcab47K2bGM.jpg" mos="" link="" align="" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pinterest-pin-exclude"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=""><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Rode)</span></figcaption></figure><p class="fancy-box__body-text">Audio Technica AT2020<br>Rode NT1A<br>AKG P420</p></div></div><p>The interference shield, a key part of the value proposition, was also surprisingly useful, protecting my recordings from the multitude of other electronic gear I have to hand at any given moment. As someone who often prints out voiceover scripts, for fear of holding a phone too close to the mic, this is a small innovation I can get behind. I can see a situation where a singer might have lyrics on their phone, so the ability to have said phone up close without worrying about it pinging or zapping your take is something you’ll appreciate. The fact it also acts as an internal pop filter is a bonus, saving you from extra accessories or making your setup look too bulky. Vocals come through clean, crisp and present, aligning with Shure’s promise of ‘mix-ready’ sound.</p><p>Aesthetically, the SM4 looks quite understated. The matt black finish looks classy, and it’s certainly not an attention-grabber - I say this as a good thing. Shure says it’s put a lot of thought into the design, keeping in mind that often people are filming video at the same time as recording audio. This could be for YouTube videos, or it could be for Teams/Zoom video calls, but the fact it doesn’t dominate visually is a positive thing in my eyes. This same trend for discrete design extends to the shock mount, which has been similarly slimmed down. The elastic bands have also been shorted, reducing the inevitable mid-life sagging that happens to the best of us.</p><figure role="gallery"><figure><img src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/EGnSBiUkPgfnpVVNzKXsQZ.jpg" alt="Shure SM4 microphone in this writer's home studio" /><figcaption><small role="credit">Chris Corfield</small></figcaption></figure><figure><img src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uUhu7pijkHHboPZJSpSmQZ.jpg" alt="Shure SM4 microphone in this writer's home studio" /><figcaption><small role="credit">Chris Corfield</small></figcaption></figure><figure><img src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/waCqbYXEdGtFBadieJFkQZ.jpg" alt="Shure SM4 microphone in this writer's home studio" /><figcaption><small role="credit">Chris Corfield</small></figcaption></figure></figure><p>The fact remains, however, that this is a crowded marketplace. In the same price range, alternatives like the <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/tech/audio-technica-at2020-usb-568927"><u>Audio Technica AT2020</u></a> and <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/tech/rode-nt1-591073"><u>Rode NT1A</u></a> are worthy contenders. The Rode, in particular, is known for its ultra-low self-noise, making it a favourite among home studio users who prioritise noiseless recording environments. However, the SM4’s interference shield and compact shock mount give it a real edge when recording in spaces where interference from electronics is common, or where visual presentation is just as important as sound quality. </p><p>Who stands to benefit most from the SM4 then? If you’re a singer-songwriter, podcaster or content creator who needs a microphone that’s easy to set up, resistant to interferences and delivers professional sound with minimal effort, then the Shure SM4 is an excellent choice. Its compact size, internal pop filters and durable options make it a flexible option, particularly in multi-use spaces or for people who need to shoot video alongside their audio recordings.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-sm4-review-hands-on-demos"><span>Shure SM4 review: Hands-on demos</span></h3><h2 id="dealcasters">Dealcasters</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/r0KpaTMOQu8" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="las-curry-2">LAS Curry</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/HKcCBAEG82k" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="obscure-mics">Obscure Mics</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/vmpYie6otCs" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-sm4-review-specification"><span>Shure SM4 review: Specification</span></h3><ul><li><strong>Type:</strong> Condenser</li><li><strong>Polar pattern:</strong> Cardioid</li><li><strong>Frequency response:</strong> 20Hz to 20kHz</li><li><strong>Connection:</strong> XLR</li><li><strong>Weight:</strong> 463g</li><li><strong>Contact:</strong> <a href="https://www.shure.com/en-GB/products/microphones/sm4?variant=SM4-K" target="_blank">Shure</a></li></ul>

In terms of build quality, while the AT2020USB+ and PodMic are also well-constructed, the MV7+’s touch panel and customisable LED indicators add a modern touch that enhances user experience and control.</p><div><blockquote><p>With auto-level, digital pop filtering and reverb, the recordings were already pretty much ready to use</p></blockquote></div><p>The MV7+ excels in sound isolation and clarity. We started by testing the MV7+ in perhaps its most obvious setting, which is to record voice tracks for a set of voiceover commissions. The additional features you unlock by connecting directly via USB make the MV7+ worth the admission price alone. Auto-level, digital pop filtering and even the option to add reverb to the speech track meant the final recordings were already pretty much ready to use. For speed and simplicity, allied with high-quality audio recordings, the MV7+ is nigh-on as good as it gets in the price bracket. </p><p>To test its streaming capabilities, again powered by USB, we used the mic for a series of video calls. One of the features Shure has pushed is the auto-level mode, which adjusts gain and level settings in relation to your proximity to the mic. </p><p>In theory, this means that the gentle movements the user makes towards and away from the microphone – often without realising – wouldn’t affect the dynamics of the sound at the other end. We're happy to report this worked flawlessly, with our subjects on the other end of the call reporting a steady, well-balanced sound even in spite of us looking fairly ridiculous while carrying out the tests. </p><p>The Shure MV7+ is a formidable choice for podcasters and content creators looking for a high-quality, versatile microphone. While it comes at a slightly more premium price, the investment is justified by its performance and flexibility. </p><p><strong>MusicRadar verdict: Finesses the original to deliver one of the most versatile, feature-laden mics for podcasting, streaming and recording.</strong></p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-mv7-the-web-says"><span>Shure MV7+: The web says</span></h3><p>"The Shure MV7+ carries over what we liked from the original and adds several automated tools that help novices and seasoned podcasters alike get more out of it."<br><a href="https://uk.pcmag.com/audio-recording/151995/shure-mv7" target="_blank"><strong>PCMag</strong></a></p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-mv7-hands-on-demos"><span>Shure MV7+: Hands-on demos</span></h3><h2 id="shure-performance-production">Shure Performance & Production</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/OSwY3CiM_EY" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="podcastage">Podcastage</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/jHd3kQNEWyQ" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="brian-macduff-2">Brian MacDuff</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/sJJEBFs64aY" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="ray-ortega">Ray Ortega</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/Af6mntdthf8" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-mv7-specifications"><span>Shure MV7+: Specifications</span></h3><ul><li><strong>KEY FEATURES </strong>Podcast and streaming microphone with hybrid USB/XLR outputs and onboard DSP.</li><li><strong>CONTACT: </strong><a href="https://www.shure.com/en-GB/products/microphones/mv7?variant=MV7+-K" target="_blank"><strong>Shure</strong></a></li></ul>

Building on the legacy of the SM7B, the SM7dB, which we’re looking at today, aims to increase its capabilities by introducing a built-in preamp, offering up to +28dB of gain, making it, in theory, more usable across a variety of different applications.</strong></p><p> The SM7dB aims to simplify the recording process by essentially eliminating the need for external preamps. This feature is particularly beneficial for users with <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-audio-interfaces"><u>audio interfaces</u></a> that lack sufficient gain, as it ensures optimal sound levels without additional (or more expensive) equipment. Less background hiss at higher levels, and a much cleaner sound available for recording or streaming as a result. Simple.</p><p>Very little else has changed; the SM7dB’s cardioid polar pattern still effectively isolates the sound source, minimising background noise and making it ideal for home studios and professional recording environments alike. The SM7dB also retains the iconic design - other than a slightly stealthier-looking appearance - and sound signature of its predecessor, ensuring the same warm, smooth audio quality that has made the SM7B a staple in studios worldwide. </p><p>Whether you're a podcaster looking to enhance the clarity of your voice, a streamer aiming for professional-grade audio, or a musician seeking a reliable <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-microphones-for-recording"><u>microphone for studio recordings</u></a>, the Shure SM7dB offers a user-friendly and high-quality solution. But how does it work in the real world? Is the addition of a hefty preamp enough to tempt you into upgrading from your original SM7B? Let’s take a look.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-sm7db-review-performance-verdict"><span>Shure SM7dB review: Performance & verdict</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1200px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="YxEymKM5G8vJmvxK77FJz4" name="Shure SM7dB" alt="Shure SM7dB in our writer's home studio" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/YxEymKM5G8vJmvxK77FJz4.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1200" height="675" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><h2 id="design-and-build-quality">Design and build quality</h2><p>The Shure SM7dB maintains the iconic design of its predecessors with a sleek, matte black finish and rugged construction that - after years of using an SM7B - we’d have no problems recommending. As a <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-dynamic-microphones"><u>dynamic mic</u></a>, it’s already inherently more robust than a typical <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-condenser-mics"><u>condenser</u></a>, and its rugged exterior gives us extra cause for confidence. Weighing approximately 837g, it still feels substantial in the hand and well-built, ensuring longevity even under rigorous use. The SM7dB also includes a detachable windscreen, which helps reduce plosive sounds and unwanted noise, and did a great job in my testing studio of keeping those nasty pops to a minimum.</p><h2 id="features-and-connectivity">Features and connectivity</h2><p>One of the standout features of the SM7dB is its built-in preamp, which provides up to +28dB of gain. This eliminates the need for external preamps, making it a convenient option for users with interfaces that may lack sufficient gain. It does, however, require +48V phantom power to operate the built-in preamp, but this is standard in most modern audio interfaces so shouldn’t be a cause for concern. The preamp can also be bypassed if you need it to, allowing users to revert to the original SM7B settings, or if you can’t get a 48V signal to it. </p><h2 id="overall-performance">Overall performance</h2><p>The SM7dB genuinely excels in delivering clear, natural sound across a wide frequency range (50 to 20,000 Hz). For speech applications, like podcasts or streaming, there aren’t many that compare when it comes to unlocking that rich, velvety broadcast sound you hear from the professionals. Its cardioid polar pattern performs well at isolating the sound source, minimizing background noise and making it great for less-than-ideal recording spaces. </p><p>The microphone’s performance is further enhanced by features like bass roll-off and presence boost, which allow users to tailor the frequency response to suit different recording needs - sometimes nice to head things off at source if you can, rather than fixing everything in post, and these extra controls were welcomed.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:4032px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="BuGNCNHpoeohHMB2Tg9Y35" name="Shure SM7dB" alt="Shure SM7dB in our writer's home studio" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/BuGNCNHpoeohHMB2Tg9Y35.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="4032" height="2268" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><h2 id="comparison-with-similar-microphones">Comparison with similar microphones</h2><p>Compared to other dynamic microphones like the Sennheiser MD 421-II and the <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/rode-procaster-review"><u>Rode Procaster</u></a>, the SM7dB stands out for its integrated preamp, which simplifies the recording setup by providing sufficient gain without additional equipment. The Sennheiser MD 421-II is known for its versatility and excellent sound reproduction, particularly for instruments, but it lacks the built-in gain boost of the SM7dB. </p><p>Likewise, the Rode Procaster, while offering robust build quality and good sound isolation, also does not include a built-in preamp, making the Shure SM7dB a more convenient option for those seeking an all-in-one solution.</p><p>Realistically, you’re either looking at a higher-end audio interface or even dedicated mic preamps as your main alternatives here.</p><h2 id="comparison-with-the-shure-sm7b">Comparison with the Shure SM7B</h2><p>The elephant in the room comes with the comparison to the original SM7B. Clearly, the primary advantage of the SM7dB over the SM7B is the integrated preamp, which addresses one of the main limitations of the SM7B - its need for a high-gain external preamp to achieve optimal sound levels. This makes the SM7dB more user-friendly and accessible, particularly for podcasters and streamers who may not have access to high-end audio interfaces. The sound signature of the SM7dB remains faithful to the SM7B, ensuring the warm, smooth audio quality that users have come to expect from Shure, so while it is a new model, it’s an evolution rather than a revolution.</p><h2 id="conclusion">Conclusion</h2><p>The Shure SM7dB is a worthy successor to the SM7B, offering all the benefits of its predecessor with the added convenience of an integrated preamp. Its robust design, excellent sound isolation, and versatile features make it a top choice for professionals in various audio fields. While slightly more expensive, the built-in gain control and ease of setup justify the investment for those seeking high-quality, hassle-free recording solutions. Whether you're upgrading from the SM7B or exploring professional microphones for the first time, the SM7dB is a compelling option that stands out in its category.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-sm7db-review-hands-on-demos"><span>Shure SM7dB review: Hands-on demos</span></h3><h2 id="podcastage-2">Podcastage</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/_DIzq4U2CD0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="sean-divine">Sean Divine</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/4O_yCjaE55Q" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="senpai-gaming">Senpai Gaming</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/HTFJVCFEC00" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-sm7db-review-specification"><span>Shure SM7dB review: Specification</span></h3><ul><li><strong>Type:</strong> Dynamic</li><li><strong>Frequency range:</strong> 20Hz to 20kHz</li><li><strong>Polar pattern:</strong> Cardioid</li><li><strong>Connectivity:</strong> XLR</li><li><strong>Boost:</strong> +18dB or +28dB</li><li><strong>Controls:</strong> Bass rolloff or mid-range emphasis</li><li><strong>Contact:</strong> <a href="https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/microphones/sm7db?variant=SM7dB" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><u>Shure</u></a></li></ul>

<h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se425-pro-review-what-is-it"><span>Shure SE425 Pro review: What is it?</span></h3><p><strong>In the world of </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-in-ear-monitors"><u><strong>in-ear monitoring</strong></u></a><strong>, the undisputed holy grail is a pair of custom moulded IEMs which, as the name suggests, are tailor-made using individual ear impressions, created to fit the unique shape of each ear. This not only offers a high level of comfort but also gives an unparalleled level of isolation (keeping outside noise out) due to the airtight seal formed around the ear canal. Of course, anything custom-made inevitably comes with a premium price tag. This is where Shure steps in with its (mostly) more sensibly priced off-the-shelf options.</strong></p><p>As one of the leading <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-microphones-for-recording"><u>microphone</u></a> manufacturers in the world, Shure knows a thing or two about audio. Not just when it comes to capturing sound, but monitoring it too. The American company boasts an ever-evolving range of universal fit in-ear monitoring solutions to cater to musicians and audiophiles of every level and indeed budget.</p><p>The SE425 Pro set we have for review is Shure’s dual-driver model, containing two ‘high definition’ drivers in each earpiece, which not only adds more punch than a single driver but more clarity across a wide frequency range.</p><p>The 425s sit bang in the middle of the current range which also includes two single-driver models (SE112-GR and 215 Pro), a triple-driver option (SE535 Pro) and the flagship quad-drivers (SE846 Gen 2). Prices start at $59/£65 for the entry-level 112s and rise to a whopping $899/£959 for the high-end 846s. The 425s have a guide price of $269/£265 on Shure’s website but can be found for a little less if you shop around. They fit firmly into what we would categorise as <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-budget-in-ear-monitors"><u>budget in-ear monitors</u></a>. </p><p>It’s worth noting that the ‘Pro’ moniker relates to the audio-only cable that is supplied with the monitors. There used to be a hands-free cable option, but no longer available for the 425s.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se425-pro-review"><span>Shure SE425 Pro review: §</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="dtjm5tKUVp54hNhRdqeN2h" name="Shure SE425 Pro 1.jpg" alt="Shure SE425 Pro" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/dtjm5tKUVp54hNhRdqeN2h.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1600" height="900" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shure)</span></figcaption></figure><p>In the box you get two clear plastic dual-driver ear pieces, a matching 64” (162cm) detachable 3.5mm jack cable plus 3.5 to 6.3mm (1/4”) adaptor and a semi-rigid carry case.</p><p>In addition, there is a generous selection of interchangeable plastic and foam sleeves, making it easy to find the most secure and comfortable fit. These include three sizes of black comply memory-foam tips, three sizes of rubber Soft Flex sleeves, one pair of yellow foam sleeves and one pair of Triple flex sleeves (the kind that you find on most <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-earplugs-for-musicians"><u>earplugs</u></a>).</p><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Also consider</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><figure class="van-image-figure " ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="MPcgPzvv7JZbCxMYaYT6xU" name="Mackie MP-220.jpg" caption="" alt="Mackie MP-220" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/MPcgPzvv7JZbCxMYaYT6xU.jpg" mos="" link="" align="" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pinterest-pin-exclude"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=""><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Mackie)</span></figcaption></figure><p class="fancy-box__body-text">Sennheiser IE 100 PRO Dynamic<br>Mackie MP-220<br>KZ ZS10 Pro X</p></div></div><p>As mentioned earlier, creating a good seal is imperative not only to the isolation levels but also the actual sound quality you’ll achieve with the monitors. We initially found that the factory-fitted medium foam sleeves were doing the job well but upon working through the myriad materials, realised that the larger size blocked more outside noise and enhanced the bass frequencies noticeably.</p><p>On the other hand, we found the soft flex sleeves to not only provide less bass but actually lessen the sound quality overall. This could perhaps be different from ear to ear but in the absence of custom moulds, we’ll take the comply tips every time. The SE425’s noise attenuation is listed as “up to 37db” which offers plenty of isolation, allowing monitoring at lower levels. This will be welcome news to live musicians (especially drummers, like myself) who want to subdue the natural stage sound and allow their in-ear mix to shine without having to ramp up the volume.</p><p>In terms of frequency response, the 425s are rated between 20hz and 19khz, which is a good start considering that’s essentially the limit of human hearing. The reality is that even though they do nearly achieve this spectrum, there is a lack of oomph in the sub-bass ranges. That said, for the size and considering the price, it’s nothing to be sniffed at. For dual-drivers, we found they did the job satisfactorily, delivering a good balance, if not a little mid-centric.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="DHk2tf9rNf6YhS4kFMoPvg" name="Shure SE425 Pro 2.jpg" alt="Shure SE425 Pro" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/DHk2tf9rNf6YhS4kFMoPvg.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1600" height="900" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shure)</span></figcaption></figure><p>For us, where the Shure IEMs excel is in terms of comfort, particularly when compared to some other generic fit options. The compact and low-profile ear pieces sit flush in the ear and don’t feel like they need pushing back in every two minutes. The Wireform cable (which rotates 360 degrees) bends neatly behind the ear and stays firmly in place. The build quality is of a very high standard and feels built to last, too.</p><p>The detachable earpieces not only make it easier to potentially replace individual components, but also means they can be connected to <a href="https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/accessories/rmce-tw2?variant=RMCE-TW2">Shure’s new True Wireless Bluetooth adaptors</a>, so you can use them as everyday listening headphones too. These can be purchased separately for $/£189.</p><p>FInally, we found the constantly changing line-up of Shure’s range to be a little unclear - particularly as each of the models look near-identical, if not for some interesting colour options. And on that note, it’s a shame that the SE425s aren’t available in some of those other colours.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se425-pro-review-hands-on-demos"><span>Shure SE425 Pro review: Hands-on demos</span></h3><h2 id="gear4music">Gear4Music</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/GeEbjthr6Ck" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="readlaudioreviews">ReadlAudioReviews</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/j-H4zPWlVHM" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se425-pro-review-specification"><span>Shure SE425 Pro review: Specification</span></h3><ul><li><strong>Drivers:</strong> Two</li><li><strong>Attenuation:</strong> Up to 37db</li><li><strong>Frequency range:</strong> 20hz to 19khz</li><li><strong>Included:</strong> Detachable 3.5mm clear cable (64”) with wireform fit, black foam sleeves (S/M/L), soft flex sleeves (S/M/L), yellow foam sleeves, triple flex sleeves, premium carrying case, 3.5 to 6.3mm adapter</li><li><strong>Contact:</strong> <a href="https://www.shure.com/en-GB/products/earphones/se425cl?variant=SE425-CL-EFS" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><u>Shure</u></a></li></ul>

Founded in Austria in 2009, it has built a reputation for creating high-quality, beautifully designed recording microphones that offer an alternative to familiar brands like Shure and Neumann. </p><p>Today we&apos;re looking specifically at the Lewitt LCT 440 Pure, which is its mid-range condenser aimed at a range of studio applications including vocals, speech and acoustic instruments, although Lewitt claims it has more than enough ability to be classed as a proper studio all-rounder. </p><p>The LCT 440 Pure features a hefty 1” condenser capsule - which is a thing of beauty, if you’re into that kind of thing - and a fixed cardioid pickup pattern which may or may not be a benefit, depending on how you plan on using it. Inside the box you’ll get the mic and a hefty-looking shock mount, along with a pop filter, windshield and a handy carry case. It’s all very premium in its visual aesthetic and in the rigidity of the mic’s build. But how does the LCT 440 perform? Let’s take a look. </p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-lewitt-lct-440-pure-review-performance-verdict"><span>Lewitt LCT 440 Pure review: Performance & verdict</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:4032px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="yemRSuMNPVTZqEJoU3Yjgm" name="IMG_0776.jpg" alt="Lewitt LCT 440 Pure mic in a home studio" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/yemRSuMNPVTZqEJoU3Yjgm.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="4032" height="2268" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><p>The first thing that hits you when you unpack the LCT 440 Pure from its box - and what a box, by the way - is the heft of it. This is a heavy <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-microphones-for-recording"><u>microphone</u></a>, more so than I was expecting, giving me immediate confidence that this was on the premium side of mid-range. Cast in stealthy die-cast zinc, it happily avoids the fingerprint magnet pitfalls of so much other black consumer technology. Branding on the front of the mic is subtle, instead letting the glorious 1” true condenser capsule take centre stage. As a large <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-condenser-mics"><u>condenser mic</u></a>, in name and form, the 440 Pure requires phantom power, but then benefits from the higher voltage produced when picking up a signal, creating a superior signal-to-noise ratio than you’d find with a typical small diaphragm condenser. </p><p>In use, this translates to improved loudness from recorded signals, which means you don’t need to drive a preamp as hard to get decent results, in turn meaning a lower noise floor - around 7dBA in this case - from your recordings. For acoustic guitars, for example, this allowed us to focus on the intricacies of the sound rather than the low-level hiss you might find from a small diaphragm equivalent. </p><p>Loading up Live and opening the frequency spectrum plugin, we could see a nice presence lift around 12kHz, which gave our <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-acoustic-guitars-available-today"><u>acoustic guitar</u></a> a nice breathy openness in the top end, however, we did find the low end was prone to becoming slightly boomy if left unchecked. While this can be fixed fairly easily, it would have been nice to be able to remedy the problem at source.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:4032px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="PHuTxHxHMhTnp8qCXEHJJn" name="IMG_0779.jpg" alt="Lewitt LCT 440 Pure mic in a home studio" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/PHuTxHxHMhTnp8qCXEHJJn.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="4032" height="2268" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><p>If we’re honest, therein lies the LCT 440 Pure’s possible only negative point. This is undeniably a simple mic. Featuring only one pickup pattern, and no onboard controls, this is ideally suited to single users recording single things. You can use it to record acoustic instruments, or individual speakers and vocalists, and it will blow you away but it’s not the type of mic you’ll rely on for table-reads or podcasts with multiple speakers. If that’s what you’re looking for, the 440’s sister, the 441 Flex might be a better option as this has eight patterns you can choose from. We&apos;d also like to have seen an onboard pad or filter to help tame some of those low-end frequencies, but this is a minor gripe.</p><p>What was impressive was the accessory haul you get with your new mic. The shock mount features a neat screw-in connection, which gave us confidence it’d withstand the occasional (accidental) kick of a <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-mic-stands">mic stand</a>, while the pop filter and windshield both combine neat design with genuine functionality. The magnetic snap of the pop filter, for example, made us smile. This is a well-made package, of that there is no doubt.</p><p>Essentially, what we’ve got with the Lewitt LCT 440 Pure is an excellently designed, premium mic with the ability to take sounds from a variety of sources and reproduce them to a high standard. Like, a really high standard. My battered old parlour acoustic, which has always been my litmus test for recording condenser mics, has honestly never sounded so good. And for that, I can only say good things about the LCT 440 Pure.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-lewitt-lct-440-pure-review-hands-on-demos"><span>Lewitt LCT 440 Pure review: Hands-on demos</span></h3><h2 id="podcastage-3">Podcastage</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/H82ukTNFqSY" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="dark-corner-studios">Dark Corner Studios</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/MTXdoVxUHgg" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="audiohaze">AudioHaze</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/FjFnBWEqyis" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-lewitt-lct-440-pure-review-specification"><span>Lewitt LCT 440 Pure review: Specification</span></h3><ul><li><strong>Type:</strong> Condenser</li><li><strong>Polar pattern:</strong> Cardioid</li><li><strong>Frequency range:</strong> 20Hz to 20kHz</li><li><strong>Self-noise:</strong> 7 dB (A)</li><li><strong>Max. For all these applications and more it’s hard to look much further than the best Shure microphones.</strong></p><p>Since 1925, this great American brand has been behind everything from Presidential addresses to conference calls, and from music festivals to YouTube reaction videos. In this article we’ve rounded up our favourite Shure microphones with some buying advice to help you choose the right mic for your needs. From straightforward vocal mics to feature-filled podcast options, there’s a Shure mic to suit almost any application. Let’s take a look.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-best-shure-microphones-our-top-picks"><span>Best Shure microphones: Our top picks</span></h3><p>Realistically, it’s hard to offer recommendations in a list like this. Shure is a name which has built up decades of heritage and history, and its products are recognised as among the best and most reliable in the business.</p><p>To think of it another way; if there were a couple of microphones we’d happily take to any recording session, or any live performance, and be safe in the knowledge they’d perform, it would be the Shure SM58 and SM57. Cliched, perhaps, but for good reason. You simply won’t find a better balance of price, performance and reliability anywhere in the market.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-best-shure-microphones-product-guide"><span>Best Shure microphones: Product guide</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1200px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="WhvgzXLdZoHZUXTVYxJa25" name="Shure SM7dB" alt="Shure SM7dB in our writer's home studio" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/WhvgzXLdZoHZUXTVYxJa25.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1200" height="675" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Chris Corfield)</span></figcaption></figure><div class="buying-guide-block"><h3 id="1-shure-sm7db"><span class="title__text"><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/shure-sm7db-review">1. An update to this all-time classic <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-vocal-mics"><u>vocal microphone</u></a>, the Shure SM7dB keeps all of the professional broadcast sheen of the original, whilst adding an active preamp for extra headroom. </p><p>To achieve its superb sound, the SM7dB has built-in frequency response filters, which do a great job at boosting or attenuating certain frequencies, meaning they don’t require major surgery once you get them into your computer. Different instruments, from the <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-snare-drums-you-can-buy-right-now"><u>snares</u></a>, toms and kicks of an <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-drum-sets-you-can-buy-today-drum-kits-for-all-budgets"><u>acoustic drum set</u></a> through to the force of a raging valve amplifier, will yield different results and there is no right answer. However, one thing that rings true for any producer, is the place a trusty Shure SM57 will hold in their heart. Equally at home recording on a live stage as it is in a studio, the SM57 laughs in the face of excessive volume, and delivers the most consistent, usable results you’ll get in any setting. </p><p>Taking guitar amps as an example; a typical setup will employ two (or more) mics. A <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-condenser-mics"><u>condenser</u></a>, to pick up the nuance and unique character of an amp, and then almost always an SM57 pressed up against the grille to capture the quiet-to-loud dynamics of the performance. It’s a potent combo, and one that has been used on countless records over the years. </p><p>As with its vocal-focused brother, the SM58, you’ll struggle to find a pro studio anywhere that doesn’t rely on the veteran SM57 for recording instruments. </p><p><strong>Read our full </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/shure-sm57-review"><u><strong>Shure SM57 review</strong></u></a></p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="b5JQ6y2niAFusEtNKPPCbV" name="Shure MV7.jpg" alt="Best Shure microphones: Shure MV7" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/b5JQ6y2niAFusEtNKPPCbV.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1600" height="900" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shure)</span></figcaption></figure><div class="buying-guide-block"><h3 id="4-shure-mv7"><span class="title__text"><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/shure-mv7-review">4. This is arguably the <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-microphones-for-recording"><u>best microphone</u></a> for people who don’t want to learn about microphones, as in, they want to plug something in and for it to sound great. In less capable hands, this could have led to a dumbed-down, stripped back approach but with the MV7, Shure has another classic on its hands.</p><p>Sure, there are ways in which they’ve simplified the overall user-experience, from handy presets in the accompanying app through to the on-microphone touch controls. We like the option of using USB or XLR to record - naturally you’ll need USB to access the MOTIV app - while the build quality and durability is the same as we’ve come to expect from Shure. </p><p><strong>Read our full </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/shure-mv7-review"><u><strong>Shure MV7 review</strong></u></a></p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="oUXBDiuwjPWiKLbvpQAmPM" name="Best Shure microphones - Shure SH55.jpg" alt="Best Shure microphones: Shure SH55" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oUXBDiuwjPWiKLbvpQAmPM.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1600" height="900" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shure)</span></figcaption></figure><div class="buying-guide-block"><h3 id="5-shure-sh55"><span class="title__text">5. Like any brand, Shure has microphones which you could call versatile, and it has mics which you’d more accurately call specialist, and knowing what you want to achieve up front will help narrow down your search. </p><p>For singers and vocal recording, the Shure SM58 is one of the oldest names on the mic block, famed for its near-indestructibility as much as its performance. This is a mic which is designed with live performance in mind, from its tight cardioid pattern which cuts out unwanted noise, to its relentless reliability. Alternatively, for capturing the high-intensity blast of a <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-guitar-amps-for-beginners-and-experts"><u>guitar amp</u></a> at full tilt, on stage or in the studio, the Shure SM57 is still the absolute sweet spot of price and performance. </p><p>Like with many mic and recording brands, there’s a definite growth trend in the area of content creation - be that podcasting, streaming or vlogs - which has resulted in the resurgence of the Shure SM7B, along with the future-facing Shure MV7 package which includes direct app control to ensure the best possible recorded output - both mics are great <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-podcasting-microphones"><u>podcasting mic</u></a> choices.</p><p>What we’ve included in this guide are the absolute classics in the Shure stable. These mics should be your go-to options for most serious music and content creation applications. But delve deeper into the Shure catalogue and you’ll find fantastic microphones for a wide range of budgets and specialisms, from recording drums to recording quick interviews using a smartphone or tablet. </p><p>The good news is that when you’re buying a Shure, you can realistically expect a level of quality and durability from your purchase. Shure mics have a well-earned reputation for being, in some parts of the range, the industry standard, chosen by professionals for their suitability to some of the most demanding situations.</p><h2 id="related-buyer-s-guides">Related buyer's guides</h2><ul><li><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-budget-usb-microphones">Best budget USB microphones</a>: start creating for less</li><li><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-cheap-microphones-for-studio-and-stage">Best cheap microphones</a>: budget mics for studio and stage</li><li><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-mic-stands">Best mic stands</a>: our top picks</li><li><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-budget-podcasting-microphones">Best budget podcasting microphones</a>: wallet-friendly podcast mics</li></ul>

There&apos;s the 55 Unidyne, used by statesmen as diverse as Harry S. Truman, Fidel Castro and Martin Luther King Jr. Its slightly smaller cousin, the 55S, is nicknamed the &apos;Elvis mic&apos; because whenever the King was pictured singing on stage in the &apos;50s he&apos;s clutching this Shure classic. </p><p>In the 1960s Shure outdid itself with the launch of the <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/shure-sm57-review"><u>SM57</u></a> and the very similar <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/shure-sm58-review"><u>SM58</u></a>, mics that have gone on to become two of the most popular studio and live performance microphones ever. Want to know who&apos;s used them? It would be quicker to list who hasn&apos;t.</p><p>The SM7, launched in the 1970s, became a firm favourite of Michael Jackson&apos;s and James Hetfield&apos;s and is prized for its ability to make even untreated recording spaces sound amazing. A later iteration, the SM7B, was the inspiration for 2020&apos;s MV7, a small, inexpensive <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-podcasting-microphones"><u>podcast mic</u></a> that&apos;s taken that market by storm.</p><p>What&apos;s the secret of Shure&apos;s success? Technical innovation plays a big role, but Shure has also always produced mics that sound incredible and are robust to the point of being almost bombproof. Importantly, Shure mics have always been affordable too.</p><p>Now, with this Amazon promotion, what was affordable has become an absolute steal. Just add vocals.<a class="view-deal button" href="https://www.amazon.com/Shure-Microphone-Podcasting-Voice-Isolating-Technology/dp/B0977SPN9R?ref_=Oct_DLandingS_D_4998f143_62&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" data-dimension112="7c7693f4-0075-458b-9852-afe3728eccf4" data-action="Deal Block" data-label="Shure MV7 + Manfrotto tripod bundle: $269" data-dimension48="Shure MV7 + Manfrotto tripod bundle: $269">View Deal</a></p></div><div class="product"><a data-dimension112="b1a18765-8b34-4bc6-9bbd-36e0b8659718" data-action="Deal Block" data-label="Shure MV88+ Desktop Kit: was $249, now $219" data-dimension48="Shure MV88+ Desktop Kit: was $249, now $219" href="https://www.amazon.com/Shure-MV88-Digital-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B08G7T3Q9S?ref_=Oct_DLandingS_D_4998f143_64&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><figure class="van-image-figure " ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:867px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:128.14%;"><img id="TW6XfC4QnAS7HDUeT3dJfN" name="51bWON4i4NL._AC_SL1200_.jpg" caption="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/TW6XfC4QnAS7HDUeT3dJfN.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="867" height="1111" attribution="" endorsement="" credit="" class=""></p></div></div></figure></a><p><strong>Shure MV88+ Desktop Kit: </strong><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Shure-MV88-Digital-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B08G7T3Q9S?ref_=Oct_DLandingS_D_4998f143_64&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" data-dimension112="b1a18765-8b34-4bc6-9bbd-36e0b8659718" data-action="Deal Block" data-label="Shure MV88+ Desktop Kit: was $249, now $219" data-dimension48="Shure MV88+ Desktop Kit: was $249, now $219"><u><strong>was $249, now $219</strong></u></a><u><strong><br></strong></u>If you're a content creator just using your phone to capture video you've probably nailed the cinematography bit but struggle with the audio. <h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se846-pro-review-what-is-it"><span>Shure SE846 Pro review: What is it?</span></h3><p><strong>Famous for the ubiquitous SM58 dynamic microphone that’s been practically a legal requirement centre-stage at live music venues for decades, Shure are one of the true pro audio heavyweights. The Shure SE846 Pro is their current flagship professional earphone with balanced armature drivers, aimed at music professionals and discerning domestic users alike - and it carries a price tag to match.</strong></p><p>Unsurprisingly for such a premium-priced product, you get a lot of bits and bobs in the box. The packaging is suitably high-end, with a glossy, printed user guide, a Shure-branded polishing cloth plus a nifty little zip-up travel case. This ‘fit kit’ contains a spare detachable audio cable, soft flex sleeves and foam sleeves in three different sizes, a set of triple-flange sleeves, a 1/4” adapter, plus a tool kit for changing the nozzle inserts in order to adapt the frequency response.</p><p>The clear plastic earbud casing means that the sophisticated internal componentry is on display, giving them a purposeful, high-tech look, and the cables detach via a sturdy push-click fitting. Once attached, they are able to swivel through a full 360 degrees so that the ideal position can be achieved with a bit of fiddling about. The cable itself is stiff enough at the earbud end to retain its shape as you fold it over and behind the ear. As it stands, there’s no Bluetooth functionality with these, although this can be added by purchasing the BT2 Bluetooth cable or the True Wireless Secure Fit Adapter as optional extras.</p><p>If you’re one of those people that takes a while to - literally - get your head around a new pair of <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-in-ear-monitors">in-ear monitors</a>, these won’t be the easiest to begin with. It’s not immediately obvious how to wear them, especially if you’re not that used to earbuds generally. There are no discernible L/R markings on the clear casing - we had to look at the picture in the user guide to figure out the correct orientation in the ear, not to mention which was the right bud and which was the left. (Clue: the red one goes in the right ear!)</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se846-pro-review-performance-verdict"><span>Shure SE846 Pro review: Performance & verdict</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="zDczUmU5FSAQdVc2qxXTER" name="Shure SE846 contents 169.jpg" alt="Shure SE846 Pro review" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/zDczUmU5FSAQdVc2qxXTER.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1600" height="900" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shure)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Once we’d figured out which bud goes in which ear and which way up the cable exits need to be oriented (they need to be pointing at your temples), we found these to be actually pretty comfortable with the default pads. Even if they weren’t, there’s no shortage of alternative inserts available to swap and try - this kind of trial and error-based exploration period is, after all, part and parcel of any earphone experience, regardless of the level of sophistication - but the fact that we were able to get on so well with the default offering shows that Shure have done their homework on this aspect.</p><p>Under the hood you’ll find four high-definition drivers, splitting the audible frequency range into four distinct bands, one of which is a low-pass filter designed to deliver true subwoofer performance. According to Shure, this prevents the output of the low-frequency drivers interfering with the mid and high-frequency drivers, resulting in unparalleled performance across the range. </p><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Also consider</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><figure class="van-image-figure " ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="gDZUM4KoXvG7mWt4BHr7m6" name="Shure SE846 Pro box 169.jpg" caption="" alt="Shure SE846 Pro review" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/gDZUM4KoXvG7mWt4BHr7m6.jpg" mos="" link="" align="" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pinterest-pin-exclude"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=""><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shure)</span></figcaption></figure><p class="fancy-box__body-text">Audeze <span class="hawk-placeholder" data-widget-type="link" data-model-name="Audeze LCDi3">LCDi3</span><br><span class="hawk-placeholder" data-widget-type="link" data-model-name="AKG N5005">AKG N5005</span></p></div></div><p>For tinkerers who are brave enough to partially dismantle and reassemble an expensive pair of earbuds for the sake of experimentation, there are three interchangeable filter inserts supplied - one fitted as standard for a balanced response, one for extra warmth and another for extra brightness - should you find the default sound not quite up to your expectations. Of the three, we favoured the default balanced option over the other two - although the warmth filter did sound luxuriously warm and smooth, the treble-boosting option proved a tad unforgiving for our tastes.</p><p>The SE846’s feature unusually low impedance for a professional product - only 9Ω - so you really don’t need to drive these hard at all. In our tests with a 2019 MacBook Pro, setting the volume control around a third of the way up was enough to deliver ample levels of loudness.</p><p>So the big question is, do they sound good enough to warrant the extra outlay over and above other IEM’s costing hundreds less? Perceived value is always a contentious issue with high-end in-ears - they rarely appear visually distinct from much cheaper alternatives, so the air of luxury is usually not so apparent. This makes the elevated price point for the SE846’s immediately harder to justify.</p><div><blockquote><p>Sound-wise though, the SE846’s are truly superb</p></blockquote></div><p>Sound-wise though, the SE846’s are truly superb, to the point where it’s difficult to find source material to do them justice. Sound isolation is excellent, but the really good news is the crystal-clear reproduction across the board with the standard nozzle assembly fitted. The immediate impression is a broadly flat response - firmly inserted with the required proper seal into the ear canal, there’s no woolly, over-pronounced bass, the low end instead coming across tight and punchy with just the right amount of presence in the subs. Mids are as clear and present as the danger in a Tom Clancy novel, and the highs are refined and detailed without being at all harsh. The soundstage is appropriately deep and wide for a set of pro-level IEM’s, making for a highly enjoyable listening experience whatever your musical tastes. The clarity is outstanding and we found them equally as satisfying listening to classical and jazz as we did EDM and mainstream pop.</p><p>Those four high-def drivers cope admirably with any genre, revealing the rise and fall of the damper pedal in Ludovico Einaudi’s ‘Le Onde’. The individual instrument parts in Donald Fagen’s I.G.Y. have never been more discernible to our ears. Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ has never sounded more ballsy and Pendulum’s ‘The Island Part II’ got us one step closer to understanding how Rob Swire pulled off those insane programming tricks.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="wzUPDuuGnko4QWbkjYnN8g" name="Shure SE846 Pro close up.jpg" alt="Shure SE846 Pro review" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/wzUPDuuGnko4QWbkjYnN8g.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1600" height="900" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shure)</span></figcaption></figure><p>The SE846 Pros proved especially revealing when monitoring our own tracks however, highlighting their appeal as a studio monitoring solution - trial mixes produced on these translated particularly well to other systems, which is a big tick in the box if you’re a music producer.</p><p>If you’re committing to this level of investment, you need a product you can trust, and the SE846 Pros deliver in spades in this regard, providing a beautifully balanced sound with excellent low-frequency performance and customisable high-mid response. With the reassurance and reputation for durability that comes with the Shure name, these make for a comfortable, well-built and superb-sounding investment that your ears will Shurely thank you for.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se846-pro-review-hands-on-demos"><span>Shure SE846 Pro review: Hands-on demos</span></h3><h2 id="brandon-taylor">Brandon Taylor </h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/3o5ShMPxE-I" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="unbox-therapy">Unbox Therapy </h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/8khvLYW_fnM" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="austin-burcham">Austin Burcham </h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/1lflYuKJTAE" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se846-pro-review-specifications"><span>Shure SE846 Pro review: Specifications</span></h3><ul><li><strong>Type:</strong> In-ear monitor</li><li><strong>Driver type:</strong> Quadruple high-definition balanced armature</li><li><strong>Impedance:</strong> 9Ω</li><li><strong>Sensitivity:</strong> 114dB/mW</li><li><strong>Frequency Response:</strong> 15Hz - 20kHz</li><li><strong>Cords:</strong> 1.2m + 1.6m, detachable</li><li><strong>Weight:</strong> 12g (excluding cable)</li><li><strong>Contact:</strong> <a href="https://www.shure.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><u>Shure</u></a></li></ul>

<h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se215-pro-review-what-are-they"><span>Shure SE215 Pro review: What are they? </span></h3><p><strong>Shure has been one of the biggest names in live music gear for as long as we can remember. If you play, sing or go to live gigs, you’ve probably heard the sound of a Shure </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-vocal-mics"><u><strong>vocal microphone</strong></u></a><strong> or guitar mic - and while Shure is primarily a </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-microphones-for-recording"><u><strong>microphone</strong></u></a><strong> manufacturer, they also create some next-level </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-studio-headphones-top-headphones-for-music-production"><u><strong>studio headphones</strong></u></a><strong> and </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-in-ear-monitors"><u><strong>in-ear monitors</strong></u></a><strong> for us all to enjoy. If an in-ear monitoring system is something you’ve been considering and you’re on a budget, then the Shure SE215 Pros should be very near the top of your list (in fact, they top our list of the </strong><a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-budget-in-ear-monitors"><strong>best budget in-ear monitors</strong></a><strong>!).</strong></p><p>So, in-ear monitors then. Not to be confused with the humble earphone, a great pair of in-ears will do an awful lot to help you sound and play better. There are many different manufacturers all vying for your attention and hard-earned cash, and many different price points for you to explore when looking for a pair of in-ear monitors. Obviously if you pay more, you get more - but do you really <em>need </em>more? That answer is probably no. </p><p>Out of the box, the SE215 Pros look like a pretty smart, lower profile in-ear. The construction is pretty basic, with either clear, black or blue plastic ‘phones on offer. They’re nothing groundbreaking, but perfectly adequate for something that is going to sit in your ear for a few hours at a time. The box also contains some added extras - a zippered carrying case, cleaning/fitting tool and various different sizes of foam and silicone sleeves to ensure you get a comfortable and tight fit.</p><div class="fancy-box"><div class="fancy_box-title">Also consider</div><div class="fancy_box_body"><figure class="van-image-figure " ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' ><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="SRxn23WATJEA4RfbUgxgpR" name="Shure SE215 Pro 169 w box.jpg" caption="" alt="Shure SE215 Pro review: Box, bag. accessories and in-ears laid out on a white surface" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/SRxn23WATJEA4RfbUgxgpR.jpg" mos="" link="" align="" fullscreen="" width="" height="" attribution="" endorsement="" class="pinterest-pin-exclude"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=""><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shure)</span></figcaption></figure><p class="fancy-box__body-text"><span class="hawk-placeholder" data-widget-type="link" data-model-name="Sennheiser IE 40 Pro"><strong>Sennheiser IE 40 Pro</strong></span><br><span class="hawk-placeholder" data-widget-type="link" data-model-name="Mackie MP-220"><strong>Mackie MP-220</strong></span><strong><br></strong><span class="hawk-placeholder" data-widget-type="link" data-model-name="Shure SE425"><strong>Shure SE425 </strong></span></p></div></div><p>The cable is detachable, to allow for easier packaging and to avoid any damage or over-bending when wrapping them up after a performance or rehearsal. If your cable does get damaged - as can happen with earphones and headphones of all price brackets - then the cable is easily replaceable. No stress, huh?</p><p>Speaking of the cable, it’s just your standard 3.5mm mini jack connector - making it ideal for most applications. Lined with wire, the cable stays pretty straight during use, without excessive tangling or twisting. A rubber sleeve and extra wire reinforcement makes sure the cable doesn’t move around too much, and that the fit around your ears is sturdy. Having cable wrapping around the tops of your ears can feel a little alien at first - particularly if you’re brand new to in-ears - but we had forgotten it was there within the first 10 to 15 minutes of use. </p><p>The SE215 Pro’s main focus lies within the earpiece itself: a single, high-definition driver. Considering a vast majority of in-ear monitors contain at least two (sometimes more) drivers, this is remarkable in itself - but what is more remarkable is the soundstage that this single driver creates.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se215-pro-review-performance-verdict"><span>Shure SE215 Pro review: Performance & Verdict</span></h3><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:1600px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:56.25%;"><img id="bqfobP7kyPGw5VQu486HLT" name="Shure SE215 169 angle.jpg" alt="Shure SE215 Pro review: Shure SE215 Pro In-Ear monitors on a white background" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/bqfobP7kyPGw5VQu486HLT.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="1600" height="900" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Shure)</span></figcaption></figure><p>In all of the musical scenarios we’ve been able to put the SE215 Pros through - heavy touring with rock bands, lounge jazz gigs and studio recording sessions, to name a few - they sounded smooth and capable, and not noticeably pokey or tinny. Like any pair of earphones or IEM’s, a little distortion was noted in some slightly more manic areas or when the volume was boosted just that little bit too high, but the SE215 Pro came out from that barrage of testing largely unscathed.</p><p>One of the issues we always run into with in-ear monitors is the issue of ambient noise cancellation and sound bleed. The SE215 Pros offer some really useful and effective isolation from the sounds around you. This is thanks to the shape and size of the casing itself, which forms a fairly decent seal when sat in your ear. Especially when playing live, you want a decent amount of separation between your own in-ear mix and what’s going on elsewhere, without feeling like you’re playing on your own. The Shure’s fit in that middle ground very well, with small but reassuring ambient levels of sound passing through. </p><p>Now, it’s absolutely worth bearing in mind that the SE215 Pros are not high-end in-ear monitors. As an entry to the world of IEM’s they’re a very respectable choice, but they won’t quite capture the spacious ambience of a multi-driver setup, or the wide frequency range of more expensive in-ears. That being said, what do you expect for under £/$100? We can’t think of another pair of <a href="https://www.musicradar.com/news/best-budget-in-ear-monitors"><u>budget in-ear monitors</u></a> that combine audio and build quality with reputation and comfort like Shure does with the SE215 Pros. For those who are newbies to the world of IEM’s - take a good look at these. We don’t think you’ll be disappointed. </p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se215-pro-review-hands-on-demos"><span>Shure SE215 Pro review: Hands-on demos</span></h3><h2 id="kay-dubz">Kay Dubz </h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/yJeshFnNIhs" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="alejandro-sifuentes">Alejandro Sifuentes</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/YqZlT6tIchg" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h2 id="lachlanlikesathing">lachlanlikesathing</h2><div class="youtube-video" data-nosnippet ><div class="video-aspect-box"><iframe data-lazy-priority="low" data-lazy-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/y_oBJX1rNCQ" allowfullscreen></iframe></div></div><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-shure-se215-pro-review-specifications"><span>Shure SE215 Pro review: Specifications</span></h3><ul><li><strong>Connectivity: </strong>Wired</li><li><strong>Drivers: </strong>One</li><li><strong>Sensitivity: </strong>107dB</li><li><strong>Earbuds: </strong>Foam and silicone included</li><li><strong>Case: </strong>Yes - soft bag</li><li><strong>Frequency range:</strong> 22-17,500 Hz</li><li><strong>Contact: </strong><a href="https://www.shure.com/en-GB/products/earphones/se215cl" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><u>Shure</u></a></li></ul>
