Ian Paice announces The Sunflower Jam
Thursday 24 September sees a very special event, The Sunflower Jam, taking place at the Porchester Hall, London (W2).
The Sunflower Jam is an event founded and fronted by Deep Purple's Ian Paice and organised by his wife Jackie. The annual event was set up from Jackie and Ian's wish to do something to support a cancer charity in London. Ian met a Deep Purple fan who was, sadly, in hospital with terminal cancer. The idea for the Sunflower Jam was born out from this experience.
Musicians performing this year include Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Gary Brooker (Procol Harum), Ian Paice (Deep Purple), Don Airey (Deep Purple), Micky Moody (Whitesnake), Nick Fyffe (Jamiroquai), Murray Gould (Elton John), Dennis Locorrie (Dr. Hook), Margo Buchanan (Pink Floyd), Jerry Brown (Tina Turner) with more names to be announced over the coming months. Jeremy Irons will also be Master of Ceremonies.
The event raises an impressive amount of money for the charity. Tickets for this year will be around £300 per head. Each year an auction is also held. This year sees some great items/experiences lined up!
The most interesting item for drummers is the auction of a kit used by Judas Priest's Scott Travis during the band's last European/ US tour. It's a huge kit and was donated to The Sunflower Jam by Scott himself. It consists of 24"x20" bass drums (x2), 10", 12", 13", 16", 18" and a snare in mirror chrome finish. Full details of the kit can be viewed at www.drumwright.co.uk and the kit will also be on display in the shop. Anyone interested in making a postal bid can contact Chris Wright on 07703 548967 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
