Bonham hits top 5 in dead rock star poll
Bonzo, along with John Lennon, Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercury and Jimi Hendrix have hit the top of a survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see in concert - for one night only! As is widely known Bonham died in 1980, aged 32 after a heavy drinking session after inhaling his own vomit after excessive vodka consumption.
The poll, to find out which dead rock star people would like to see play a one-off gig, was launched on www.thisdayinmusic.com on Friday 25 July.
“We’ve lost so many great musicians over the years, most of whom died too young. Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones from The Rolling Stones and Ian Curtis from Joy Division were all under 30 when they died and John Lennon was only 40 when he was shot outside his New York apartment in 1980,” says Neil Cossar, This Day in Music's Editor.
Music fans can vote on the site from a list of 25 dead rock stars or they can choose any star of their choice.
This Day in Music.com will be publishing the results from the poll at the end of August after collecting thousands of votes. Fans can vote on www.thisdayinmusic.com and This Day in Music's Facebook, My Space and Yahoo blog.
We've lost a lot of great drummers over the years - Keith Moon, Buddy Rich, Elvin Jones to name a few - who would you choose?
