Prima: the operatic software singer
Zero-G's Prima is the latest virtual vocalist to be powered by Yamaha's Vocaloid 2 'singing synthesis' technology. Modelled on the voice of a professional soprano opera singer, it's said to be suitable for lead, harmony and backing vocals.
Users can make Prima sing simply by typing in lyrics and specifying their pitch. A variety of expression controls is included - it's possible to choose from several different vibrato types, for example.
Vocaloid 2 is an enhanced version of Yamaha's original Vocaloid engine. It sports a redesigned GUI and promises to generate a much more realistic and natural-sounding vocal sound.
New features in Vocaloid 2 include real-time keyboard performance, an easier workflow and note auditioning.
Zero-G Vocaloid Prima will ship in January 2008 for PC. Standalone, VST and ReWire operation is supported, and the price has been set at $200/€169/£115.
