"There are a couple of different sides to me," says guitarist Mark Tremonti, who, somewhat fittingly, divides his time between two different musical outfits, Alter Bridge and Tremonti. "I like to write songs that are angry and dark, but I also like songs that are big and uplifting and anthemic – stuff that makes you feel good. I don't like anything in-between; I'm into extremes."
When we speak with Josh, the band are putting the finishing touches on the record, and he admits the shake-up has allowed the five-piece to move in new directions, with some of the band's more hooky melodies and even progressive tendencies falling into their crunching metalcore mix.
Martin Simpson's serious face lasts just about as long as our photographer Joe needs it. More often he's beaming a broad grin at some wry observation or recounted adventure, each laughter-line fully bought and paid for over 61 years of life, learning and music
