Church turns Katy Perry's lyrics into warning sign
Katy Perry's infamous single I Kissed A Girl is about a girl kissing another girl and liking it. The success and controversy surrounding the song have got certain groups worried about bringing "the sin of homosexuality" to the masses. A church in Ohio (US) is using the lyrics, plus one of its own, as a warning.
The sign outside Havens Corners Church in Blacklick reads: "I kissed a girl and I liked it, then I went to hell". It seems a bit harsh, but the church's pastor - Rev. Dave Allison - wanted the message to be a loving one: "We meant that as a loving warning to teens… The Scriptures tell us that you should not do what the song tells you to do. The Scriptures are not ambiguous on this issue," he told The Columbus Dispatch.
This isn't the first time in recent months that song lyrics have been used to preach or teach – Amy Winehouse's lyrics in a Cambridge exam, Morrissey's for business students. Perhaps Perry's lyrics will end up on a t-shirt and help 'save the music industry', as well as the souls of Ohio's teenagers.
