Video tutorial: Warming up with Mike Portnoy and Travis Smith

The Dream Theater and Trivium drummers take you through their warm-up routines

Drummers Mike Portnoy of progressive metal band Dream Theater, and Travis Smith of thrash metal outfit Trivium, are both known (among other things) for their technical prowess.

However, as any drummer that has ever suffered from tendonitis (or worse) will tell you, if you are going to play with such speed and passion it becomes even more important that you warm up beforehand.

In this video, Mike Portnoy and Travis Smith explain their approach to warming up, showing us their pre-show routines.

Good tips
I tend to just go though a load of rudiments while practiceing foot work and then practice what iam doing in the show !
