Drum basics: Stretching

It's important to stretch before playing

View in gallery

Playing drums can be a physically demanding activity. Without preparing your body properly for playing you could do yourself permanent damage. Fortunately, doing a few simple stretches before you start playing will help you avoid injury and make your playing time more enjoyable.

This lesson shows you three basic stretches. Be sure to perform them gently so you don’t strain anything. You should also avoid ‘bouncing’ the stretches as this can do more harm than good.

Once you have completed the stretches you will feel more loose, relaxed and ready to play. You will probably find that you play better as a result of this short sequence of exercises.
