Second Signal
Second Signal is Chris Guiney of St. Louis, MO in the United States. I make sounds using an Acer Desktop running Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 and Ableton Live 7 LE. I use a myriad of freeware, open source, and Computer Music plugins (was a gifted subscriber for 2+ years) and effects controlled by a StudioLogix VMK-200 control interface, an Akai S-9 sampler for drum triggers, a Fender Strat Copy missing two strings, an old Bass guitar who's brand I forget, and a vintage Roland Juno-6 for analogue wierdness. I mix down in Live and do post-mastering in either Audacity or back in Live with the single track (LE has VST limitations but I am against using pirated audio software these days). My favorite virtual instruments are currently Native Instruments Kore Player, Yellow Tools Independence, DSK Virtuoso, and daHornet. My effects of choice these days are anything free by BetaBugz Audio, Jack Dark, and the Kjerhaus Audio Classic Series. I release all of my music for free and only accept purchases as a form of donations to date. In 2008 I released a full length album entitled 'Nights' and then began work on the Organics set of three EP's of five tracks apiece. I plan to complete one final Organics EP in 2009 and then will assemble all of the tracks together as one CD for purchase on iTunes in mid 2009. I also hope to put together a live set for sometime in the summer of 2009 here in St. Louis...if you want to hear me somewhere, let me know! Some trivia: I have a wife and a son...they are awesome. I met Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails/Option 30 fame a few years ago...I doubt he remembers. My first set of music was put out under the name Analogue Satellite from 1997 to 2003 using a PC Laptop, a Roland XP-50, the aforementioned sampler, and free loops...no VST's at all. I did not go to college and instead went into information technology for fortune 500 companies in the midwest. I was a programmer, architect, manager, director and finally switched careers into marketing...but who cares. I actively participate in FaceBook for personal stuff. I had the track of the day on GarageBand.com in June of 2006 with my debut album as Second Signal for the cut entitled 'Falling'...an experimental track that made it to 33 out of 1,200 that month. In 1998, I had the 1 track in ambient on MP3.com for 'Julia: The Fallen Element' for three days...it was downloaded by almost 1,000 people before downlaods were normal.
