Neil Citron has previously worked as a tech for Steve Vai, and has good inside info on the rigs of Slash and Joe Satriani, so he knows how to get a good guitar sound.
Now he's used his extensive knowledge and experience to help create six new classic amps and seven new cabs for Waves' GTR3 software.
Among the amps modelled are Citron's customised Carvin Legacy, Ibanez TN120 Thermion and modified '60s 100W Marshall Plexi. These and a selection of handmade cabinets were sampled using Neve mic preamps and EQ'd according to Citron's specifications.
The result is a selection of 'clean' and 'crunch' amps for GTR3 that, according to Citron, sound as good as the hardware they were modelled on.
"As someone who owns these actual amps, take it from me — with GTR3, now you do too!" he says.
Users who are covered by Waves' update plan can download the Neil Citron amps for free, and they're also included in all new versions of GTR3. As before, this can be purchased either as software only ($380 native; $480 TDM) or with the Paul Reed Smith-developed recording interface ($500 native; $600 TDM).
