Digidesign said that Pro Tools 8 would be available before the end of 2008, and it's delivered on its promise. Updates are now available via the company's website and through authorised dealers.

As we reported when it was announced, this update brings a new look and feel and fully integrated MIDI and Score Editors. There are 20 new effects, five new instruments, a guitar amp sim (Eleven Free) and an 8GB bundle of loops.

Pro Tools fans can also now make use of Elastic Pitch functionality - this enables you to transpose in real-time in the Edit window - while the track count for users of the LE and M-Powered versions has been upped to 48.

Update prices are £156 for HD and £92 for LE/M-Powered. The full version of M-Powered costs £165.
