Having debuted it at the 2008 Winter NAMM show, PreSonus has announced that its AudioBox USB is now in production and will be shipping in April. This is a 2-in/2-out audio interface that looks very much like it´s been designed with the laptop musician and small desktop studio owner in mind.
This being a compact interface, there´s not an enormous amount of connectivity, but the AudioBox is equipped with two microphone/instrument preamps and two balanced TRS outputs. MIDI I/O is also onboard.
The audio inputs have dedicated level controls on the front panel, and there are also Phones and Main level knobs. The Mixer dial, meanwhile, balances the level of the track you´re recording against those that you´re playing back. 48V phantom power can be engaged with the press of a button.
The AudioBox USB comes with PreSonus´s Propak software bundle. This includes a copy of Cubase LE 4 - so you can start recording right away - a selection of third-party plug-ins and some samples.
The price of the AudioBox USB is still to be confirmed - you find out more about it on the PreSonus website.
