It may not be the most exciting product to launch at the 2008 Winter NAMM show, but M-Audio's ProFire 2626 will surely appeal to people who want a feature-rich audio interface that's bursting with I/O.
As its name suggests, the new box has 26 inputs and 26 outputs. It offers 24-bit/192kHz performance, DSP mixing and incorporates M-Audio's Octane preamp technology. Specifically, there are eight preamps, each of which has 75dB of gain range, 48V phantom power and a -20dB pad.
The onboard DSP mixer and router, meanwhile, enables you to select from up to 52 audio streams and send them to any of the 26 outputs. It's also possible to create up to eight stereo mixes.
The ProFire 2626 supports the ASIO and Core Audio driver standards and offers compatibility with the Pro Tools M-Powered software. It can also operate standalone as an 8-channel preamp.
The new interface is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2008 and will cost $900. Full specs are available on the M-Audio website.
