Digidesign´s Transfuser is the latest instrument to spring forth from the company´s Advanced Instrument Research (A.I.R.) group. This real-time loop/groove workstation plug-in for Pro Tools isn´t quite finished yet, but you can download a three-month pre-release version now.

Pro Tools forte has always been its audio tracking, editing and processing capabilities, but with the release of Transfuser, Digidesign looks to have turned its hand to something a little… well, funkier.

Features on offer include real-time slicing, conversion of loops into MIDI patterns/drum kits and on-the-fly replacement of sounds in loops. Furthermore, loops can be randomised in musically intelligent ways.

Transfuser promises to give you the tools to breathe new life into your existing sound libraries, then, but it also comes with a selection of loops and phrases to get you started (200MB worth of content comes with the preview, but you can expect to see a 2GB library shipping with the finished version).

Samples can be dragged and dropped into the plug-in as Pro Tools regions or audio files from your desktop.

Further details on Transfuser and a link to the trial version download are available on the Digidesign website. The software will run as a plug-in in Pro Tools|HD, LE and M-Powered and requires an iLok.

No pricing or release information is available as yet, but we´d expect to see Transfuser on the market by the end of the summer.
