Ask the Chickenfoot/RHCP drummer anything
Tom Porter, Mon 6 Oct 2008, 2:56 pm UTC
As well as baring more than a passing resemblance to comedian Will Ferrell, Chad Smith spends most of his time drumming for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He's also part of the uber-supergroup Chickenfoot, alongside bassist Michael Anthony and previous subjects of the MusicRadar podcast: Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani.
Being a full-time member of RHCP since 1988, it's easy to see why Chad Smith is one of the most successful and respected drummers around. And his Pearl Masters Series signature kit is, if you need it, a testament to this reputation.
With the Chili's taking a two-year hiatus, Smith is keeping busy recording with Chickenfoot. Luckily for us, he's agreed to give us an update later this week and, luckily for you, this is your chance to ask the questions.
Simply add one to the comments below (you'll have to be registered and logged in to do so). We'll pick the best and ask them during the interview. Good luck!
Thank you so much, Chad!!! (:
Thank you Chad :)
First of all, CONGRATS for being the great musician you are, and for giving me and all the fans that wonderful feeling of pleasure every time you play =) I started studying drum under your influence, I really love your style. What I would like to know is how can you explain the effect that the Chili Peppers causes in the public, as it is so varied?
Kisses!
What do you love about being a musician and what do you hate about it?
Hi Chad!
We've read that the draws that are on your drums have a meaning in your life. Would you like to tell us about some of the stories they have?
Thanks for the space :)
Antonella, Bs. As., Argentina.
Chad,
I learned how to play drums from listening to your work with the peppers for the last 8 years. I started a band that is heavily influenced by RHCP and your drum work. Would you mind listening to the song Boomtown or Fracture and tell me what you think of them. I'm trying to keep the rock alive. My band is called Sarasine.

Sup Chad, I've heard that you've been known to have to change your snare drum halfway through a gig due to you wearing the skin out so quickly, affecting the sound. Is this true? Loving the Chilis, none of it ever gets old, and can't wait for Chickenfoot =]
Cheers!
Hi Chad!
I hope you to read this. I'm Santiago from Uruguay and I'm a great fan of you and your bands, drummer too :D
There are so many questions here that I may repeat them so I'll ask you something that I hope no-one asked before;
Who the hell invents your band's names? (Yes, a really stupid questions but the other question I wanted to write is also asked so...) They're fabolous!
Thank you!
PD: I'd like to have such original ideas for my band's name.
Hi Chad,my name is David from Argentina and I am a starter of the drums. You're my favorite drummer and I Am a crazy for the RHCP and Chickenfoot.
My Question is:What's the best era of the Chili Peppers?
Thanks :)
Bye bye,see you later :) :)
Hey chad=) I guess now that nearly all the interesting question have been asked (and will hopefully be answered) I'd like to know if the rumours I heard about you learning the guitar are true?
