Last night saw Sonic Youth make their first appearance live on UK television since 1992 on Later… Live With Jools Holland, playing What We Know from their latest LP The Eternal. The show also featured performances from Depeche Mode and Lilly Allen.

Friday's extended Later… show (11:35pm BST, BBC2) will feature more from the alternative rock legends, but to see the band in fine form right now, visit the BBC iPlayer website and skip forward to approximately 15 minutes in.

Viewers outside the UK who can't access the iPlayer will have to wait for the inevitable YouTube rip, or sate their appetite for all things 'Youth with this performance of Sugar Kane, live on the first series of Later… back in 1992:
