Music News: The Police Break It Up...Again

Don't stand so close to...each other

It seems like we were just telling you about Stewart Copeland's spiffy new Tama Signature kit -- you know, the one he's going to be rocking arenas with on the Police's next tour.

Sad to say, but it seems as though Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland have announced that their upcoming North American tour dates will reportedly be their last as The Police. Their recent year-long jaunt has been one of the highest-grossing tours of all time, and is expected to rack up more than $340 million when it ends.

The latest set of dates will kick off May 1 at the Scotiabank Palace in Ottawa and conclude August 4 at the Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York, with a 15-date run through Europe in between. Elvis Costello & The Impostors will serve as opening act for the trek.

But while the latest dates and the tour's blockbuster success might signal the band's interest in challenging the Rolling Stones for the top-grossing tour ever, Billboard magazine, citing sources close to the tour, report that the dates will be the group's last live shows as a band--ever.

On the other hand, they can always do a nice three-year-run in Vegas. Hey -- everybody else is doing it.
