Amplifier No.7: tube guitar amp in US Army surplus ammo can

Ted Nugent's new signature model?

Tom Porter, Wed 15 Jul 2009, 1:06 pm BST

BC audio amp

BC Audio's flagship model is the Amplifier No. 7: a handmade tube guitar amp built inside a "US Army surplus .50 caliber ammunition box."

Here's the spec: "Amplifier No. 7 is a dual-channel non-master volume amp, with a maximum power output of either 15 or 25 watts, determined by the use of either 6V6 or 5881 output tubes with the appropriate 5Y3 or GZ34 rectifier tube."

"Unique is the use of 6SL7 octal preamp tubes, rather than the ubiquitous 12AX7. Equally uncommon, Amplifier No. 7 features true point-to-point wiring - not turret board or eyelet board construction (which are often incorrectly referred to as "point-to-point")."

The Nuge

Pricing starts at $2600 list, or "$1795 factory direct." We wouldn't be surprised if gun-loving rock monster Ted Nugent has one on order. Or maybe just the electrics… he's got enough army surplus lying around to build a house (or a shop). Allegedly.

You can see and hear the amp in action below. More here.
