Yamaha is a veteran player in the musical instruments market, and can trace its history back to 1887. Yamaha produced its first acoustic guitar in 1942, although it wasn't until the ascent of the Beatles in 1965, that Yamaha turned its attention to electric guitars and basses.
By the 1970s, the quality and design of Yamaha guitars was attracting the attentions of artists such as Bob Marley and Carlos Santana. The company then had a major coup towards the close of that decade when Paul McCartney and other name bassists began playing the Yamaha BB (Broad Bass). Famous Yamaha players include John Lennon, Bob Marley, Brian May, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page, Carlos Santana, Bob Seger, Billy Sheehan, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor.
